A man was arrested Wednesday after entering a Publix supermarket in Atlanta carrying six loaded firearms and wearing body armor, police said. The man, who Atlanta police have identified as 22-year-old Rico Marley, was charged Thursday with five counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony and six counts of possession of a firearm during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.

Police did not provide specific evidence that Marley planned to carry out a shooting at the store that day. But the incident occurred in the wake of two mass shootings that have shaken the nation and prompted widespread calls for gun reform: the shooting at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, that killed 10 people, and a series of shootings at three Atlanta-area spas that killed eight.

I've seen ones attacking fatphobia in the medical community, and while I'm very pro-sensitivity....there is objective fact. Fat is unhealthy. The whole thing makes me :psyduck:

It doesn't excuse some doctors who are cruel about it, but some situations call for bluntness.

If you're three hundo plus, with a sedentary lifestyle and a garbage diet, a guy walking past you on the sidewalk is not entitled to comment on it, but your primary care who's getting horror show labs back on you is not just entitled, but obligated to make you aware.

Well yes, it’s true that being overweight brings with it a host of potential health problems, but the issue is that a) it’s very hard for people to lose an appreciable amount of weight and keep it off and b) there are too many doctors out there that see someone’s weight or waistline and decide that any problem is related to being overweight. I’m saying this as someone who lost 60 lbs a decade ago and has kept it off ever sense - fat shaming people to try to make them lose weight just doesn’t work. I spent years trying to get in shape and never managed it, and I wasn’t even that big. It was only when the right set of circumstances converged that I was able to make any progress, and for a lot of people that’s going to be incredibly rare. We need to attack the problem from multiple angles - helping people who are motivated to lose weight, providing better care for those that struggle to, and probably revamping our entire food culture tbh.

But that’s a nuanced take on the issue and it put me way over the 280 character limit so it’s never going to get those sweet retweets. Easier to just say inflammatory poo poo and call it a day.

It's good to be shorter. Shorter people are literally better for the planet than tall people! You use less resources, which is green. Tall people have to eat more, use more energy, drive bigger cars & use more fuel, need more materials for their clothes, bigger beds, higher ceilings, it goes on and on and on.

I'm hoping to maybe be eligible before the may 1st deadline when everyone is supposedly eligible, but I have no strong evidence to suggest that's going to happen. I have health problems but none that qualify, and I'm 46 and it doesn't sound like there's gonna be another age bracket opening between "50 and up" and "all adults."

Nope, I'm in Wisconsin and have no loving clue when I'm going to be able to get my first shot. I'm eligible now (chronic kidney disease, whooo!), but appointments are incredibly scarce, and because I don't drive, some of them are just flat-out impossible to get to via public transportation. (Lol I am not paying fifty loving bucks, one-way, for a Lyft out to goddamn Fort Atkinson for a shot.)

The mindset is if we're both fat, and you intentionally lose weight because you want to change your body, that must mean you think fat people are ugly and you don't want to look like them anymore.

Life is a series of compromises and disappointments, each eroding your capacity for hope a little more than the last. While this may seem cruel it's a natural progression that helps carry us from the state where you're at now, where death seems terrifying and unnatural, to where you'll be at the end of your life, where it seems a welcome and warm embrace.

It's interesting following along the systems in different states. I mean depressing but interesting.

Missouri, which I think you'll all agree sucks...seems to have a working sign up site that got me moved through relatively quickly and texted me confirmation of my second appointment while the nurse was still looking at my arm to see if I needed a band aid from getting the first dose. And from reading other experiences states that you'd expect to be more on top of things are kind of the wild west.

A couple of years ago, I was dating a woman whose sister was ... I mean, she wasn't morbidly obese, but she was definitely overweight; okay, whatever, at the time I was about 45 pounds overweight--this was like three months after I had split from my ex-wife, so I really wasn't taking care of myself at all--so who the gently caress was I to judge? Anyway, at the first family dinner I was invited to, someone made a comment about being able to fit into an old pair of jeans for the first time in a while, and this sister wound up going on this 20-minute screed about Size Liberty and Fat Oppression and Thin Privilege. At one point I elbowed my girlfriend, who just shrugged and whispered to me, "Just let it go, she probably only has a few more minutes left."

One of the more :stare: experiences I've ever had when meeting a significant other's family.
