I think in a world that could support a franchise of a dozen or more comic book movies in the 90s, it's not that much more of a stretch to say there could have been a Marvel EXTREME subline of comics in the early 90s, where Nick Fury was drawn based on Keith David's performances in They Live and The Thing, and 90s MCU Fury is based in turn on that

(Also there was a direct-to-video Captain America movie in 1990 starring, uh, this guy but he ain't on the list either)
