I also genuinely love how Kazuma Kiryu is consistently a friend to all children and will help them with their problems, no matter how big or small those problems might be

while the story quality varies a lot from game to game, yakuza's also probably the most successful example of a continuous long-running story i've seen. Y0 to Y6 will take you across 30 years of these characters' sad, silly lives

it takes three games of context to really understand why this song makes half the fanbase watery-eyed:

Huh. I'm sure this is based on some American thing, but the style evokes 1970's USSR for me.

Just gotta keep walking down that road.
The karaoke tracks are always mentioned in the context of that series (and for a good reason) but it's always worth mentioning that those games also have some real banger soundtracks in general.

I would say the main story is more akin to professional wrestling kayfabe than a more nuanced drama; everyone's physicality and emotions are ramped up to 11 and characters on screen will telegraph very clearly whether they're a heel or a face at the moment (this role can and will change frequently throughout the story, however), and i've lost track of how many characters have died and come back to life (or have they??) but it's entertaining as hell.

Kiryu would’ve made a great wrestler, too bad he became a criminal.

I’d really like a Strikey Sisters with a bit more of a game attached on top of the basic breakout battles (which, granted, are definitely good for what they are). The RPG overworld seems like basically a skin on top of a pretty much linear and unrelated progression of breakout fights, but it would be so cool if there was actually a real rpg/progression layer on top.

Loot River is a game where you use the platforms you stand on to transform the stage layout on the fly. The trailer does sell it pretty well.

Got an email from Fanatical for $12 off some upcoming releases - this included Deathloop, and Biomutant. If you're signed up with them, check your email. I'm grabbing the latter.
Also - don't be a boomer like me an pre-order games...

It sucked when all my preorders got delayed last year though.

The classic kitchen sink approach, it's got: kung fu, guns, magic, vehicles, mutations, assuredly some sort of skill tree, I'm just gonna guess it has loot and crafting, all wrapped up in a weird aesthetic.

tl;dr

- They combined bed/food/hygeine into one structure which is nonsensical
- The humor is extremely not funny
- Other problems.

Got Subverse and put about 2 hours into it getting through the introductory scenes (until you're turned loose on the galaxy) and listening to all of the voice acting (the voice acting is really loving good). Game's got quite a good story that actually has some thought put into it. The shmup combat is decent and even the turn based was interesting. Definitely some strategizing to be done.
