Anime theory: I think Kumoko is the Demon Lord and the Lady in White. As a previous poster said, she's probably gained the ability to multiply somehow. As to why she's trying to conquer the world: I think she's trying to save it by doing something and that the conquering is a means to that. She's probably not wanting to be evil but has to be to sell the lie to the demon generals. Additionally, I don't think Julius is dead. I think Kumoko as the Lady in White cast some kind of sleep spell or something and took Julius while killing the others. Using her admin/isekai magic she removed his Hero skill and passed it to Shun. The king and other characters remark how weird it is that the brother of the previous hero would also inherit the hero skill, so I think there's something there. It might just be that it's a really easy way to remove any hope for people that Julius is still alive when a body isn't available. Everyone "knows" that only one person can have the Hero skill at a time, and if anybody but Shun got it, it might not be known that the skill was transferred away from Julius and proving his death. I also suspect that Julius is working with Kumoko to save the world, and not being held against his will. Julius remarked that he wants Monsters and Humans to get along, and I have a feeling that something along those lines is the key to saving the planet and restoring balance or what have you. I think it also goes to help explain why the Hero skill went to Shun and not any of the other siblings or named characters. Shun was his clear favorite. One last guess is that the teacher is in on all of it as well to some capacity. She's not revealing who their other classmates are and/or lying about their fates because they're in the demon army and all working together for the common goal of saving the world, which the human reincarnates aren't aware of yet.

Episode 12: I thought that was a really well-done episode. No glaring omissions, no cutting away, just a brutal, drag-out, knock-down fight between a skill-abusing spider, and a noble dragon. Kumoko hasn't gotten that hosed up in a while, and it made Araba's submission all the more bitter.

great episode again...cant wait for...2 weeks from now for another new one i guess... since im posting like, hours after the episode is up im just gonna spoiler this next bit I definitely teared up again at poor kumoko just...tearing into araba after he gave up. like she's been trying SO loving HARD to achieve all her victories and trying to survive and like...Yeah araba knew that he was hosed but it's still such a punch in the gut to have him just...delete all of his skills. making his resistance to everything she did 0. and seemingly by removing some of his HP up skills reducing is already nearly 1 HP to outright 1. Also...now that I think about it, it's super loving chilling having hugo use shun's in isekai name after everyone else who is in the know concernedly mutter to themselves "shun..." dude's gone off the loving deep end. Like he's trying even harder to separate himself from their previous lives. and then this...is again just me posting about the manga and its relation to where we're at in the anime. We've "met" demon lord, balto, and the rest of the crew from that meeting in the manga already technically, but if im remembering right, we still dont have a name or anything for lady in white who's obviously killed julius. also the end of THIS episode puts us at about...3/4th of the way through the latest volume of manga released in NA.

This show is really hamfisted with those allusions that Kumoko might evolve to demon lord. Come on. Just after the fight that girl talks about fighting earth dragons without any sort of prompt. At that point they might as well just say it. So obviously that wont be happening, because that would be the least subtle twist ever.

It looks like the nonhumans just have way more fun in this world. Well, getting reincarnated as a boring human is kinda boring. At least Hugo seems to be enjoying himself. But the demon lord really found her niche. She's living her life to the fullest and is having a blast. Also Hug's new fried sort of spilled something there.

I'm getting the vibe from the lady in white reflected in the mirror/glass last ep, and the spiderweb around the fingers on that poster, that maybe the demon lord is more like a puppet controlled by Kumoko (lady in white)? She looks like a puppeteer in that poster but maybe its a bait n switch. Seems like a kinda dumb theory, but posting it here so I can quote myself when I'm right! aoi yuuki not only carried a story that was mostly an extended deranged monologue, she carried a pretty poorly animated adaptation of that story with lots of key stuff cut out. it's crazy impressive.

It's funny hearing her voice a much more soft spoken character in GBF, though the most recent event with her does have her getting some pretty close to Kumoko-sounding lines in. Not quite to a Hibiki level, though that would be great to see for that character.
