Yeah, my only minor gripe with them is that I think they're a bit too plugged into "leftist - left-liberal internet discourse" and feel a need to actually entertain the idea that there's any genuine "anti-fascist" or "social justice" element to left-liberal politics (and are afraid of being accused of "downplaying" the far right). Specifically, I think many white leftists feel like they have some obligation to assume that left-liberal social justice groups are acting in good faith.

Unlike many other people I'd say this about, though, I actually think they're coming from the right place and aren't at risk of becoming bad.

i know this is off topic but look into the Driftless Area of Minnesota / Wisconsin / Iowa. Extremely beautiful area. It's what the midwest looked like in prehistory before the glaciers made most of it flat. There are even cool endangered ancient snails

Glad you enjoy the info. I went to college in, and now live in the driftless area, and something about it is fascinating and somehow, for lack of a better term, "enchanted". It just feels ancient and mysterious. Great place for tourism, hiking, climbing, camping and fishing. Hope others look into it too. There's a pretty cool free (i think) doc that talks about it that you may find interesting. https://www.sustainabledriftless.org/

Wow yeah that is really cool. Its ancientness kind of reminds me of parts of the Appalachians. Geological variance in this country is really stunning sometimes. I love driving across the Big Horn in Wyoming and seeing the roadside labels for the different rock strata.

I can't wait to start road tripping again.

it is dumb, like who the gently caress cares what these literal nobodies think

I did see someone calling someone else an assadist. is that an ideology now? assadism? what are the tenets that assadists uphold? or did someone just say yeah it’s important for there to be some occasional adversary to western power, which is the only actual power most countries get to experience in the form of a figurative boot on their neck, in a conversation peripheral to syria with no lived experience in regards to syria. it’s probably even dumber than that, but calling someone an assadist as if you can be one like a leninist or a trotskyite is just more bullshit twitter roleplaying.

like who the gently caress cares just mark them off as a lovely person in your own mind if you disagree. I genuinely don’t understand the point of warning people off, like that fact will become apparent if they’re allowed to interact with them on their own. the greatest horror to these people is some impressionable autonomous adult person (I guess these are the people who were “tricked by russia” into voting for donald trump) will agree with something outside their advertised orthodoxy- I weep for what the discourse has become. keats had the right of it- “the best lack all conviction, and the worst are full of passionate intensity”
