Intelligent cruise control systems will do this too. I can set my Outback to 40 on a hill and it will downshift the CVT to keep it at exactly 40 the whole way without braking.

Hybrids are the best of all of these. On a good downhill I can watch my car fully recharge the traction battery using the motor to keep my speed. Once it’s full you can watch it start to use the engine for braking.

They’re neat as even driving around town it will use just the motor to slow the car down if you need less aggressive braking.

I kinda hate this. My car will either downshift or brake on a long hill and I'm like, let it coast and gain that 5 mph and I'll use that free energy on the other side.

I drove a rental Dodge (SUV of some kind) that would let the car slow down on up hills, which was neat, except that the hills we were driving on would slow the car down just enough to kick the cruise control back on just as we were cresting, causing the car to start accelerating as we were going down hill.

That's the first time I've seen the gravel pit ones as well. We have many runaway ramps along the interior freeways here in BC, but they're all just basically a really steep ramp.

Those ones always kind of confused me because couldn’t the truck just roll right back down and into traffic again? Even just briefly. I’m sure someone thought of that and it’s not like I’ve ever seen one being used but still.

One of the times we went through suez in the last year they managed to do this to us in port said.

It took them 5 days to unfuck that mess and clean the hold of the oil that was smashed out of some of the containers. During that time they claimed on at least 3 occasions that they had finished cleaning so we could definitely sail away now only for one of us to wander over and see the hold still full of oil.

What I’m saying is this whole situation is extremely on brand for anything to do with the Suez Canal authority.

Fuckin lol, please post about this in the Suez thread and spill all the dirt on how incompetent the pilots and port staff are.

Not likely when you use the original backwards parking break, keeping it in forward gear.

Woke up this morning to no power as the main breaker had tripped. Turned everything back on and it was fine, didn't think anything else of it. About 4PM the girlfriend and I are sat on the sofa watching TV when I asked if I was imagining things or had the lights just flickered. Then they did it again and I could hear a noise outside, went to the window and I could see smoke down the street. Threw my shoes on and went outside to see that there was a hole in the road with blackened concrete around it and the smell of magic smoke. Called the power company to send someone to sort it and they just sat in their van for a bit until it started doing this, leading to us being sat in the dark for 5/6 hours with no thing to do.

Similar thing happened to me a few years ago, tho in that case it was a transformer buried in the neighbors yard. Not nearly as mysterious tho since the earth shattering kaboom when it went up woke everyone up and set off car alarms

On the plus side we had constant power outages before that, and after they were forced to dig it all up and replace the unit that stopped :toot:

Going with NewPipe for viewing or the Vanced android app for viewing and interacting with Youtube is an altogether more pleasant experience than trying to trick it to work inside a browser imho, especially on a phone. I did firefox + ublock origin for a while, but it was always a pain in the rear end.
