Breadtube is that thing where Republicans got mad at the GOP, defected to the Democrats, and then decided they were the true Democrats all along and should be in charge of setting the party's priorities, except it's succdems defecting to the left and then deciding they were the true leftists all along

like, I know we keep going back to the well of Vaush saying Lenin would be a Warren staffer who voted blue in the general if he were alive in 2021, but it's just so loving unbelievably lovely of a take and he never recanted it

yeah, that's a very good description. but I also think people like Vaush are just kind of pathetic individuals looking for positive validation, and they get it by embracing an ideology they don't understand.

I agree and think the following questions are a better starting point than telling someone to read theory when it comes to class consciousness:
1. Can you imagine making $100,000/year? $200,000/year? $500,000/year?
2. Can you imagine making $500,000/year and thinking that you deserve more?
3. Can you imagine making $500,000/year and thinking that you deserve more KNOWING that money will come from people that make far, far less than you?

I read The Communist Manifesto and I didn't learn anything from it at all, other than that Marx thought the family unit was bad and should be broken up, bunch of talking about problems which every Democrat talks about but not much effective arguing for a solution. I've heard Das Kapital is better, but I'll read it ... later, because I'd rather spend my free time watching Young Indiana Jones and cartoons

Not well for me personally, but that's probably because I've always been immensely depressed, and am invested in this general movement because I think people deserve better.

For the state, it actually works quite well. Five of the seven leftists won in the 2020 primaries here. One of them, a gay drag queen and vocal Bernie supporter, completely humiliated his opponent at the polls. Talking to people works.

I never said poor people can't read. I said tossing a book at people, telling them to join a book club, and thinking that's a broad solution is laughable and insane. This has nothing to do with income or education, and everything to do with what people are primarily interested in (like personal connection via conversation).

Honestly, this is a misanthropic misreading of what I said, and I'd expect people to act in good faith, and not engage in stuff like the bad forum.

these are really simple questions that clearly define what the general movement is about, and can be broached in about five minutes with someone. it's good to use examples like this when you're connecting with strangers, and trying to get them to buy into something like a set of political goals.

telling people to "read theory" kinda sucks because what you should be doing is for the people to have already read theory to educate everyone else who hasn't (preferably without condescending to them)

for example, when I post excerpts from books I'm currently reading that are pertinent to the current moment? you're welcome

no, it means people, especially poor people, are busy. they aren't dumb, they're just occupied with the hellscape of life. if they want to read stuff, that's great. but that shouldn't be the main focus in building a coalition, and it definitely shouldn't be the primary way you educate people or engender them to you.
