There was a lot of variety, as far as I can tell. Which makes sense, they lived across a pretty wide variety of areas with a wide variety of environments and resources.

Freaking 1 star spear goblins hit for over 50 damage, it's silly

Also they camped my portal so long voyage back, which I suppose is fine because im mainly just attacking the biggest goblin camps I can find and smelting hundreds of black iron scraps

I feel like there are 5 types of players based entirely on where they place their portal hubs.

Portal hub as a building inside their metropolis capital city.
Portal hub on a island in the middle of the ocean.
Portal hub on top of a mountain.
Portals scattered all over.
Only a couple portals at home with one that they change the name tag on to go to other portals.

Hmm, V would probably transliterate to W rather than F, gro-wer-hus.

That'd be great. 68 degree slopes would help with ramps as well, my various chutes leading to the forge constantly have ingots/linen stuck on them

I am building my portal hub structure around the trader. Let me tell you, roofing him in was NOT easy when you don't have ironwood yet.

The real solution to massive building projects, for me, is stone pillars. Just raise a pillar of stone as high as you can, slap some walls around it, and use it as an anchor for everything.

I was under the impression longhouses didn't even have floors. It was a firepit with some gravel around it and a bunch of benches that were also storage areas.

I did a tour of Estonia and Latvia in 2019, and visited the museums of old housing in both. A common pattern was dirt floors in many of them, wealthier families had some stone, or if they were dealing with grain. While not Viking themselves, there was a lot of trade as a whole, so of course various styles.

The thing that really stood out was the consistently low ceiling, minimising the amount of space to heat.

I cleared a small plains island and dropped work benches everywhere. Hopefully it'll stop deathsquitos from spawning too. Does the rising tide damage structures over time? When the tide rises, some of my work benches are under water.

Playing peek-a-boo around a stone with a one star spear fuling was one of the most harrowing and rewarding things I've experienced in game.

If you're burning out on the game just cheese it in.

If you're like me and like exploring and building more than anything else: just sail around with a longship hopping from swamp to swamp and load it with iron. I'm currently charting my entire home island (it's massive), farming an absolute shitload of iron is my next to do.

:geno: Yes, it's like a lava lamp.

It'd honestly be very cool if you could harvest Ironwood - like a wood but stronger, no iron required - if you spent the time to locate useful trees in swamps. Convert some of the huge trees into Birch equivalents.

Maybe we'll have to wait for them to get to putting stuff in the Mistlands before we get that tho

I got annoyed bringing silver down a mountain in a cart to a waiting boat, so I took many hours and built a raised, wooden road that winds through the mountains and directly to a loading dock where it goes on the boat.

Also, thanks for the Bonemass suggestions. With iron maces we pretty much just beat it to death in front of some skeletons.

I always see people talking about difficulty getting silver out of the mountains but in my experience I just strap it on and run down the side, it's like skiing

My main problem is getting iron *up* the mountain now that my mountain fortress is online enough to start being my main base of operations.

Holy mother of gently caress people weren't kidding about the Plains.

I'll freely admit to using devcommands because I'm lazy and chill and playing a solo campaign want it to feel like 3D Stardew Valley. Even with godmode on, the Plains will kick your rear end. It's easy enough to swat away the Loxes and Deathsquitos, but a Fuling camp will just bully you around without stamina unless you use actual tactics like kiting and stuff. Also, it's jaw-dropping to see the HP numbers you are surviving as they wail on you. A two-star regular Fuling was doing roughly 170 HP a tick lmao holy poo poo

Anyway I'm looking for a place to set up a plains base but apparently after killing Yagluth, Fulings will roam the entire countryside? I kind of don't want to deal with Fulings being the new Graydwarves harassing my goddamn house every five minutes, considering leaving him up until I've 100%ed my file. Also is there any way to totally prevent property damage? Just the thought of building one of those reddit-worthy builds only to have a Troll fart on it and destroy it all in a raid makes me break out into a cold sweat. I know there's stone walls and moats, which work great for melee, but if Fulings become free roamers they have shamans and spear-throwers...

My big mountain continent is ringed with plains so I've had to make a fortified dock area and cross the thin stretch between it and my mountain fort that is on the edge. I figure I'd expand to fill in the gap as I gear up and start plains farming.

Definitely had one of those "fuckups lead to emergent gameplay" situations last night. Accidently stranded myself at the trader because I hosed up switching a tag on a portal. What resulted was a multi-day 5 biome journey including crossing from one continent to another by swimming the gaps of an island chain that ran between the two. The story culminates in reaching the base of my mountains through what I thought was a meadow between the mountain, swamp, and dark forest; only to realize too late that's no meadow... it's a fulling tower full of spear throwers... and the resulting noise drew out a horde of greydwarves as well as draugrs from their respective biomes for some battle of the 5 armies poo poo (drakes were visible on the edge of the fight but never ended up aggroing). Made it home in one piece and found some barley!

At that point, couldn't you just start a new character, get to your portals, and rename one?

EDIT: Oh, this is solo.

Same thing happened to me with portals, and now I have an extra portal in my home base for emergencies. I know a lot of people opt for portal complexes, but a small portal section near my work space is all I need. Another option is to make a chest, leave all your items inside, destroy the bed you're tethered to and kill yourself. You'll spawn at the very beginning of the game.

Obviously, the best option is to go on an epic journey.

for a single Lox all you need is a shield that can parry their two attacks. The Porcupine works best but any weapon will do, just stun and combo them

yeah... i had arrowed it down to a sliver of health and was like eh whatever, i can damage race you!

i could not, in fact, damage race them :negative:

i need to up my parry game, is what i'm learning

question about mods: is editing skill levels/godmode/anything to make a corpse run easier allowable in a multiplayer server, if i'm the only one logged on and not the server host? i'm fairly confident i can get my body back, but all my buds beat the last boss and have logged maybe 2 hours combined between 4 of them since, so i may not have an escort into the Plains if i can't be a badass viking enough to get my stuff  :qq:

What happens if you give a third portal the same nametag as a pair of portals you already have?

Edit: Also, I made second story bedrooms in my big airy A frame base and was very pleased with the appearance with the big views, mine is the Ocean view room, my buddy's on the other side is the Mountain view room.

I no longer want to hunt bosses or mine. Just lounge around, eat honey and be rested.

You cannot use devcommands on a server. However, since your character is local, you can load up a local game, do the devcommands stuff to change skill levels, and then load up on your server and the changes will stick.

Godmode won't be possible without a mod, something like https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/104

Zwabu posted:

Nothing - the original portals will still be linked, and the 3rd portal won't say "connected"

Keep in mind that there might be simpler ways to recover your stuff without editing your stats. The "community server/individual game" dynamics are the same for gear. So if your body is in the middle of an area that you'd die quickly, you can rush in there, grab all your stuff, log off immediately, log into a single player game, drop off your gear in a chest, log into the community server, finish getting murdered, spawn at bed, log into your single player game, and grab your stuff.
