I bought DE about a month after it came out. I gave it about an hour. I thought it was good, but my desk chair was busted and could collapse if I leaned back and it made playing a game like this nearly impossible to enjoy. New chair new game. I really love it. I just came off of some celebrated "good writing" RPGs that mostly just amounted to  NPC backstories and worldbuilding , and it's nice to see what actual good writing is like. I'm also really impressed with the voice acting of the Final Cut. I wasn't originally too psyched about the original announcement as what voice acting I experienced in the original release was kind of meh, but whoever voices the inner monologues is killing it.

Instead of going for my 3rd plaxthrough I opted to play it with my girlfriend who's only video games experience is mainling stardew a whole bunch. So far it's been great, the new voices make it easier to play as a couple and her decisions are definitly not the same as mine. She immediately went full crazy feminist on garte and then made a beeline to the wild pines rep, after deciding that the corpse and cuno were annoying. Let's see how she's going to play this, great fun so far.

My first run was Motorics 6 (everything else 2, Electrochem signature) and I do not regret it. IIRC it has less passive checks, but some of them are 'important' ICly (OOCly you can fail fowards so enjoy). And some of the active checks are very nice for feeling competent. EDIT : Also I kind of wish the old thread was open for spoiler chat or something because oh god, I just found out I could argue down my day 1 debt with Garte to 30 real!! Been playing on PS5, no issues so far apart from wishy washy controls when selecting things to interact with and a brief stutter when the game auto-saves. Without any real pre-knowledge of the game (for example I didn't even know you picked stats at the start) I have gone for 5 intellect and 5 physical with rhetoric as the signature skill. Full on communist hard man ideologue, fun so far! Started the game with a successful roll on a 3% chance to remove my awful expression, setting unfairly high expectations for RNG for the rest of the game.

The game doesn't tell you a single thing about how the Thought Cabinet works or even what it is, I'm playing blind but I'd suggest looking up an explanation of that. Basically it's a combination research tree and customization menu? I guess? You decide which Thoughts to keep, they take time to "internalize", and give you bonuses and penalties.

Decided to do a physical run this time and already miss my best friend the tie (he was silent so far). Also, decided to roll with Revacholian nationhood because it seems to fit, however it doesn't, counterintuitively you need to have high PSY to be able to take damage from fascist dialogues.

I was having constant crashes all morning until I read it's super common for unity to crash with a certain overlay on, which I don't own, but I figured something similar like discord might be doing it and it looks like killing discord actually worked. I'm clearing up some stuff on my old save from 2019 I never got around to finishing off and I'm very slightly now obsessed with some old theories about hidden stuff, namely The DLC truck and the COCAINE SKULL

That thought is supposed to be self destructive. To counter it, take the Magnesium Based Lifeform thought which will give you 2 more Volition. I also picked up Opioid Receptor Antagonist on my hard fash run, which makes it so you basically can't use any drugs, but alcohol has no downside so just chug chug chug those filthy foreigners away.

Started my Final Cut playthru. Since it'll be my 4th, I went 4/4/2/2 but cheated myself an 8 in Inland Empire and Shivers. I'm going for kind of a communist Dale Cooper, very in touch with the city and the "outside" influences. I really like the narrator. I've been enjoying not just click-click-clicking through exposition and just listening to it like an audiobook. It's funny to say this about the wreckage of a failed revolution, but I take a lot of pleasure just kind of being in this world and exploring it. Also, my last playthrough was like a year ago, so I've forgotten a bunch of jokes and I'm laughing my rear end off anew. How is this game an expert at being so poignant and sorrowful and yet also one of the funniest games I've ever played?? Masterful.

I've beat the game multiple times pre-update and man some of the themes hit me so hard with what I was going through at the time - but then that just made the hope-spots that much sweeter. And now y'all are telling me the Necktie is fully voiced? Going to have to play through it yet again.

Taking the opportunity of the final cut to play this through again with my wife, letting her choose everything without putting my thumb on the scale (the only thing I'll intercede on is if it looks like she's going to miss the phasmid). Obviously, this means I'm seeing all sorts of new little lines and combinations, but there's a couple of things I'm surprised NOT to see. The opening conversation with Klaasje can go so many different ways, but I definitely thought her filling you in on your behavior was a pretty set part of it. I went back myself and tried to trigger it, but now I can't seem to. Does anyone know what choices lead to her telling you about your breakdown and screaming 'I don't want to be this kind of animal anymore'? Also I like the VO overall. I didn't even notice Klaasje or Garte had changed; it wasn't until I got to Cuno and realized he wasn't howling everything anymore. The new voice definitely helps make him a little more sympathetic but I do kind of miss the old one. Also, the inner monologue gets very staccato sometimes with odd breaks between words, like some of the lines are assembled from multiple takes or even text-to-speech. It's a ton of dialogue to handle though, so I get it.

If I remember right, there's a Reaction Speed check when she's heading back into her room for your cop instincts to kick in and ask her some more questions. Slow reaction speed means she just goes back into the room.

Does anyone know the requirements to get the necktie to talk to you? The internet says a passive Inland Empire skill check (≥10) when examining the Ceiling Fan, so I put an extra point in it, took the anti radiation drug, and I get some dialogue alluding to it being mysterious but should it talk to me immediately?
