Whoa.... I just realized that minions who have the "Sees dead people" trait don't take morale damage from body bags. This is helpful, because my body bag to minion ratio is rapidly approaching 2:1. Also, when you take the loot quest for the Yeti, it will cause most of your minions to take ongoing morale damage until they desert and instantly die in your traps.

I certainly dont have deep-seated issues involving birthdays.
Ironically that also means the game self selects for 'sees dead people' minions and they become really common!!

one other pro tip for intel generation, you can set the computer desk to accept scientists instead of regular workers - i had a glut of idle scientists so a nice computer room full of them tapping away when i didnt need them for research and they seem to generate more intel then workers

you can do the same thing with camera desks and muscle minions - the muscle minions have much better spotting power too so your cameras will see through disguises better, strongly recommend turning them both on if you are keeping sizable amounts of specialist minions

Friends, I could really use some assistance. I played EG1 and had no issues, even on Hard everything was manageable. EG2 is kicking my rear end though.

Specifically, started a new game and got set up. I'm doing reasonably well, slooooooooooowly researching and sloooooooooowly building up my base in between doing missions for $10k a pop and trying to keep heat manageable. Problem is super agents. I'm playing on the first map, they show up on the walkway to the depot and all my minions immediately lemming over there only to die horribly and build up a massive pile of bodies. The SA was the blue luchador guy, if it matters. I tried using my henchman's sabotage ability and it did like 50 damage to him and that was it, he immediately turned around and wrecked her.

I haven't even completed the first objective before the SA showed up and started just smashing my face in. So two questions - first is 'what triggers a super agent to show up?' and second is 'how the gently caress do I deal with a super agent without losing 2/3rds of my workforce???'

Super agents seem to start showing up after you've generated enough total heat for their region. After that, you can see them moving around the map. They're triggered to come to your base by completing a mission in the region they're watching. The game also gives you a visual indicator when the agent is watching, which you can see by hovering over the region and/or clicking on the mission details. As long as you don't complete a mission (you can start them, as long as you cancel them before they finish), the super agents will never show up to your base.

In terms of defeating high level agents, the issue is that they (mostly) have guns and bombs, while your minions default to fighting with their fists. This ends predictably. Rush the tech that gives your muscle minions guns, then spam gun racks until they're all armed. Engage the agents at range, preferably in a long hallway; avoid fighting them by doors or airlocks. IRIS' technique for "become a security camera" is incredibly helpful for this.

Super Agents are triggered by running a scheme in the same region the agent is currently standing in. Just keep an eye out for which region they're in and you should never get a Super Agent showing up until you want one.

I also noticed that the SAs never move region while you have the world map open, so if you really need to run a specific region that they're in, keep closing and opening the world map. Or if you're like me and paranoid about them moving to a region waiting for minions, keep the map open and stare at them like a goddamn weeping angel :v:

I'm afraid I can't answer the second one because I haven't actually had a Super Agent show up yet, but the best advice I've heard is "Guns. Lots of guns." and "Clubs are a trap, don't buy any"

The only time I bothered to check, I had 10+ scientists but my intel desks only had hard hat icons. I wonder if you can't have scientists work on intel stations until you get the later tier scientists to ensure they focus on research? Right now I'm just slowly as as gently caress procrastinating in the "Collect Ye Minions and build Ye Sanctum" phase this reboot between being distracted telling myself "You know, I never beat Tropico 4" send help.

You took Janet as your first henchman. Do not do that. She is not a bad hench but she is TERRIBLE as a first henchman. If your name is not Red Ivan take Jubei or IRIS. You need someone who can tank for your first henchman.

Not particularly well compared to Jubei, who performs better in melee, or IRIS, who can put a shield around herself, regenerate, and act as a camera to summon all your guards to her location, no.

I AM THE ONLY ONE IN THIS GAME WHO GETS LAID
I'm in the early-mid game (just getting my second-level specialized minions now) and I'm wondering if I hamstrung myself by going wide. I have every sector open at level 1 and a few level 2's as needed by story quests. Going into this I thought the passive income from having everything open would be worth it even if I wasn't running schemes, but now I feel the heat management is burning through my cash/minions and it's probably also causing the nonstop waves of investigators. Would it be better to close off all but like 1 continent to save on heat generation/mitigation, and run 1-2 level 2 schemes for money as needed? I went Zalika with Eli as my first henchman.

Edit: And is there any reason NOT to just build a room in the basement to stuff 100 lockers into to hit the minion cap right away? I'd have a separate barracks for actual beds in better places on the map, but lockers don't seem to do anything except add capacity so why not throw them out of the way?

Eli can tank somewhat based on the fact that he has a lot of vitality, but he's not a dedicated tanky character.
E: although early on 100 HP is basically all you need to tank.

On the other hand, his revolver can kill any super agent in three to six shots if some minions distract them.

There was no reason not to do this in the original game anyway (in fact it was even better to build a ton of shacks outside the base for the purpose, both to save up precious lair space and to provide quality time wasting distractions - but I think the new game got rid of the whole topside thing ?).

Also if anyone is wondering why your top tier muscle henchmen are using pistols and clubs, I'm pretty sure once a henchman has a weapon they never get rid of it, even after training to a new type. And guess weapon types guards can use? Pistols and clubs! I had to delete all my pistol/club stalls and execute dozens of hitmen and martial artists to fix the issue.

But of course, dead minions lead to living ones having an overinflated worry about their own mortal value. By executing one you remind them their deaths are individually meaningless compared to your glorious plan, and their existential crisis at the reality of death disappears.

Also, watching Jubei distract people is incredible, he does the blind old man thing of hitting with his “walking stick” and he will do the politeness pass by shuffle dance of right left right left.

I've discovered something I'm wondering if the rest of you can confirm/deny.

Seems like if two investigators are both distracted at the same time, it ALWAYS fails. But if I tag them one-by-one and split up the group it has drat near a 100% success rate. (I don't know if it works on other agent types because I had to restart after a death spiral)

Also another question : Do side stories ever expire? Like, should I be worried about doing them in a certain time frame or can I simply do them whenever it's convenient?

It depends on the Genius. For Kalika (science lady) you get a scheme to steal a tech you don’t have. I *think* the level you fire at determines how good a tech you steal can be (for example firing at level 2 I was able to unlock a max tier trap long before I could have researched it)
