Meanwhile in Northern Ireland... These are loyalist rioters upset that the NIP is going to put a border down the Irish Sea. If the border to the republic was going to be closed you would have seen the same thing from republicans. Anybody could have seen this coming a mile away. It's just like the riots in Derry a few years ago. This isn't going to stop until someone ends up dead. RIP Lyra McKee.

From Punch magazine. https://www.rte.ie/centuryireland/index.php/articles/churchill-proposes-partition-of-ireland Strangely enough there were debates at the time of partition. Some suggested the whole of Ulster. Some suggested just the 4 northeast counties. If we had been united since the start of independance maybe none of this would have happened.

Partition was a loving crime in the first place. Made worse by northern ireland becoming economically irrelevant after WW2. Theres a place for Jim McAllister in Dail Eireann imo. Would love to see him there.

They were the Fourth Party at Holyrood until being surpassed by the Greens in 2016. Back to 2007, before the Westminster coalition destroyed them, they had 1 fewer MSP than the Tories & certainly weren't hated in the same way.

It's a bit harder than that, if only because sure, you only need 5,000 votes to win Shetland but they are spread across a bunch of islands each with 15 people on it. Unionism/nationalism is also a concern, and as the Libs are the strongest party there, may as well keep voting them because voting Tory might split the pro Union vote

this is in a 2019 lab HOLD, correct? i don't know the constituency very well, but this seems to fit the expected of a pro-brexit low-density place with lots of older people who own their houses so the exact people starmer has been chasing ferociously for the past year. i guess brexit is still delivering, but interesting to see such a swing since the supposed nadir of 2019. i'd guess it's vaccination success combined with labour adamantly refusing to suggest doing anything except give money to police
