Do not update over the internet, it will put you on the latest FW which can only do a tethered jailbreak which sucks in comparison. herculon posted:So it does matter what firmware you’re on? lol not really, the latest firmware is 4.87; which just came out in December (after the OP was created). you'd kind of have to go out of your way to be on that high of a firmware. Even if you are though you can do these web exploit jailbreak things every time you boot the system. CFW is much cooler though.

oh yeah and if anyone cares (I think Amercian McGay was asking a while back) you can jailbreak PS4s now on firmwares as recent as 7.5x. It was stuck on 5.05 for ages.

Essentially in twenty years if your ps4 battery dies, it will need to be able to access the playstation 4 servers to allow even physical games to work. Servers that probably won't be around then. This does not affect those with jailbroken PS4s, fwiw If your ps4 or ps4 pro is on a 7.x firmware (it's up to like 8.5 now), please don't update it
