Unfortunately I'm pretty sure the runner on second rule is here to stay, by all accounts the players actually like it because it lets them end games and get home faster.
|
# ? Apr 8, 2021 08:43 |

Yeah, it doesn't significantly increase home or road team's winning chance, what it does increase is the chance that the teams will score different amounts of runs in a given inning, which will end the game. I don't like it, but MLB and the players do so it's probably here to stay.

You don't like immobile fat men swinging out of their shoes at every pitch? Three true outcomes are all we need.

If one of those outcomes is pfc being less bitter and more fun I'm all for it.

On June 15th 1976, a Pirates - Astros game at the Astrodome was rained out because flooding filled the stairwells. The players couldn’t leave, so a buffet dinner was set up for them on the outfield. In Manfred’s future every game will start with the players eating a buffet dinner on the outfield.

Well I was thinking more of the type of buffet that MLB players might be served, not so much the Golden Corral type

Golden Corral doesn't share pork bun. I think their target audience wouldn't get it anyway. Honestly I've only ever been to one buffet ever that had them, some random chinese buffet in Philly, they also had a Mongolian grill and surprisingly good pastry, but the only reason I went there was to eat my own body weight in pork bun. Mmmmmmmmm...

I mean we say that "most extra inning games end in 12 or less" but I was at an 18 inning game in 2007 that I stayed all the way through out of sheer bloody-minded stubbornness, and let me tell you, I never regretted the "we stop selling beer after the 7th" rule more in my entire life.

I’ve seen enough kids sticking their grubby little plague rat hands straight into mashed potatoes and chocolate fountains for one lifetime.

Narrowly beaten by “rain delay after the 7th” in brutality. God help you if you end up experiencing both scenarios in a game, especially simultaneously.

The best buffets in Vegas are at The Wynn and The Cosmopolitan. Planet Hollywood has a good one too because they kept it the same as when it was The Aladdin. The extra innings rule is the equivalent of my beer league hockey games where the refs won't ever call icing if the game started at 10pm or later.

There is a good argument that the Yankees should've traded Gleyber Torres last season. It's as big of an open question as to what exactly he is as a player, as it's been in his career. It's getting more and more clear that the Yankees have stuck with this core for too long and the longer they wait to make really big changes, the more their assets are depreciating.

They were doing this last season so I'm pretty sure its the new standard. It actually seems like one of the most logical moves in the "try and attract people put off by the length" campaign. I assume they're also still doing reduced inning breaks? That probably contributes a tiny bit.
