It was "only" £135 after some sort of coupon when I bought it three years ago, but this is what I use and it's really good. Not sure I'd pay 50% more for it though.

A 95-E is a super entry level cartridge (although I don’t think they’re bad at all for the cost). Does that stylus make that much of a difference?

The Denon DL-110 is fantastic. A moving coil that only needs a moving magnet-level of power to function at a MM price tag.

Or at least that used to be the case. This thing's shot up 4X in value since I bought it.

okay so here's a thing we don't discuss much but I would be interested in hearing your opinions of:

EPs.

A lot of times, if I'm going to just do a couple chores in the kitchen (like empty the dishwasher and get something started for dinner) I'll put a record on since that's adjacent to where the stereo is and far away from my computer. But if I'm going to be done in like 15-20 minutes, if I put on a whole-rear end album (or a double album) I'm stuck either bailing out early or playing the whole thing well after I'm done in the kitchen.

And so the other night I put on a one-sided 12" EP I'd gotten (The Budos Band live disc that came with their fifth record) and it was just enough music for me to get the oven preheated, empty the dishwasher and put dinner into the oven and then go back to the other stuff I was up to.

So I'm thinking, what are some really good EPs/10-inch albums/etc. I could get to fill this niche? don't worry about genre, I am up for any kind of good stuff

Here's the ones I've got on my shelf that I can think of off the top of my head (and I've got R.E.M.'s Chronic Town coming in the mail as part of my most recent discogs order)

Cheap Trick - Found All The Parts
Oingo Boingo - s/t
Budos Band - Shape of Mayhem to Come
Game Theory - Pointed Accounts of People You Know
Frank Sinatra - Songs For Young Lovers

how long has Target carried vinyl btw? Literally never seen a record sold outside a thrift shop or record store.

Looked like a lovely press, and was a generic selection like Lust for Life by LDR, and some non-blue album Weezer. I guess it's cool? I couldn't have imagined any of the vinyls they sold were even--made to be on vinyl? Is that a thing or part of the recording process?

I also found it a bit offensive that one of LDRs newer albums were $45 at the local record shop. Figured $20-25 was industry standard.

Mafia III has two records. One has licensed tracks and the other is the original score. They both came in a surprisingly nice box with the game, an art book, and some other stuff. 2k had the $150 kit down to $29 in October 2017 and I wound up selling the game + DLC on ebay for $27, giving the box and other goodies to a local game store, and keeping the records for myself.

Bioshock records are stupid expensive now. There is a 7" for the second game that required you to send a letter via mail to an address on the game's site. Its median price on Discogs is $150 now. Only $75 per song!

Most of the vgm records are ridiculously expensive. I am strongly considering selling a large chunk of my collection to help pay for wedding rings.

Big label poo poo is always overpriced. So it's not unusual to see some Top 40 artist's album cost 40 bucks.

It's not really a thing. But it can impact your decisions because certain things are harder to cut. For example, if you have a ton of super loud bass that's pushed to one side of the stereo image, that's not going to sound great on vinyl. But for the most part, it's not something that you have to think about until you get to the mastering stage.

Plus nowadays, it's becoming more common for albums to just have a digital and vinyl release.

If you're seriously considering selling some of your video game records, please post a link in this thread, as I may be interested in buying some off of you!

Also, hello thread! I am just getting into vinyl, namely for video game soundtracks and retro Japanese city pop. My first addition to my collection (Paradise Killer OST) arrived last week, and I'm really excited to finish up my setup.

As I'm new to the scene and have broken ears (I don't have the 'audio knowhow' to pick out differences in sound quality, warmer vs cooler, stereo vs. bass, etc.) I'm starting off with the recommended basic player. I'll probably poke back into the thread to get some recommendations for basic-but-good quality speakers as well.

Gotchu. Can talk about music for days.

These are probably my top three RN, and have been for the last year. They are all surf rock/synth pop/indie kinda vibes. They are DIY bedroom pop, like Tame Impala--produce all the music at home on their own, tour with a band.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzOLy5qIzRs

CASTLEBEAT is amazing, and draws a lot of inspiration from retro gaming/8bit poo poo. Just give a listen, you'll see what I mean. He just dropped his 3rd LP, and owns a small indie synth pop kinda label called Spirit Goth records. Don't love the 3rd one as much as the first two, but gently caress, I really love the first two.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpQzrQaoDWM

This is my favorite song by him. I'd also like to give an honorable mention to Jaded Juice Riders, his much lesser known unappreciated side project, which I think he dubs lo-fi surf rock. I think he started it with a friend in HS. They don't have vinyl, though, just sold out cassettes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66eZ1uwQ0Go

Day Wave (my boy JP, Jackson Phillips)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YyZI-bGg5k

He's on the twitch grift now. His music really helped me through some stuff. He does a New Order cover of ceremony, that is probably in my top 3 favorite songs of all time

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uJXbQfSzz0

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntn6q-ODULo

Dayglow, super up and coming. Dropped out of college to pursue music. Not a huge fan of the releases for his new 2nd album (has a much cleaner pop sound, the natural progression of indie music), but, his first, Fuzzybrain, will forever be an iconic album. Talk about summer vibes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ly_k5L98k0

This is him in HS, I believe. Just check out that energy. Dayglow, coming to a Starbucks and Forever 21 near you.
