Absolute lmao at the "that's a wrap" transition.Brutal Garcon posted:Yeah, those action scenes were a mess. Wonder what happened. These were by far the worst so far, but imo the directing of action scenes in this show is generally subpar. Big contrast with the far better comedy-oriented stuff. Hopefully the poo poo animation isn't a sign that things are running behind and they'll have to keep cutting corners in future episodes.

The preview was late, too, so I can absolutely believe there was a production problem. When next week's preview comes out may give us some clues about whether or not this will be ongoing.

I've really liked all of the Kumoko fights so far since they're nice and tactical compared to any other isekai I can think of. We actually know most of Kumoko's skills and abilities so seeing her thinking up creative ways to use them is very satisfying. There aren't enough isekai that have the 'this world runs on rpg combat mechanics' side of the genre actually matter like this one does, so that's a huge draw for me. The animation not wowing isn't an issue if whats actually happening in the fight is still good. The human fights notably do not have the same factors. There are no tactics and you can't enjoy the characters using their generic abilities or their badly animated swordfights. Due to this the human stuff this week sucked so hard I started skipping to important-looking dialogue. The Kumoko stuff was golden though. A bit sad seeing all these responses to the production when this is the first time I have given a diddly goddamn about the distaff Fire Emblem side. On the other hand, I remain way more interested in Kumoko and how she is going to meet/become/replace/join with the Demon Lord and how we get from baby vampire Sophia to conspiracy agent Sophia. I will still give them credit for completely upending what's going on with Shun because that means something is actually going on with Shun, finally. It really is the relative contrast that made him so boring I think. Putting aside Aoi Yuki going in at full force, the Kumoko storyline has had her very consistently doing stuff and pushing forward. Even if it was mostly her fighting various monsters it was still something besides the many scenes about Shun talking about uninteresting offscreen politics.

The most damning thing I can say about Shun as the viewpoint character is that Hugo would make for a more interesting protagonist at this point. Hell he's the only human character so far that has anything resembling a proper arc, and he's one of the villains! Better yet, just make Fei the protagonist, at least she has an established connection with Kumoko in their past lives.

I mean, the main problem with the human side is that it doesn't really do what the human side of the story is supposed to do. It's massively truncated in ways that take all the interesting world building parts out, so now it's just rote plot with none of the investment.

To put what I was just saying another way: The anime tells Kumoko's story from inside of her head and the human side of the story from a 3rd person limited perspective. The LN tells Kumoko's story from inside of her head and the human side from inside the head of a handful of humans. Primarily, though not exclusively, Shun and Katia. And their story starts earlier in their lives.

The teacher gives the impression that she was working on gathering them all up and taking care of them for long enough that she couldn't possibly be the same age as them. If reincarnation is possible, then surely it's possible to space them out a little too. So I just assumed that she got reincarnated into the world like 10-30 years before the students did. Things like Fei hatching after Kumoko makes sense if Kumuko was born earlier in the year than Fei, with that interpretation. Though this breaks down if official birthdays and etc for the characters is listed anywhere. And then Oka also ends up at their academy with the students on the '30-40 years in elf is like 15 in human, why not let her mingle with people 'her own age'?' elf age logic stuff, to give her an excuse to stay close.

Oka is really short compared to the others and closer to Sue in size, so if elves grow slower, that might still make sense. Sophia clearly grew up well in that time, even though she is a vampire.

No I mean, life expectancy doesn't play into it. Just 'Kumoko is x months older than Fei in Japan, Fei gets born x months later in isekailand. Teacher is 20 years older than the students, got born 20 years before them in isekailand. ' But I guess I'm just assuming Fei hatched within a few months of the others. Was it mentioned if she's as old as Shun anywhere? The whole elf age thing just seems relevant as to why the teacher is at the academy alongside them, though as a peer, not a professor or something. But she might just have been a hypetcompetent isekai baby or something, instead of older than the rest. I feel it would have been mentioned if all the human reincarnators were born at the same time etc, since it would have made tracking them down a lot easier. I think a thing to keep in mind is that Kumoko came out being able fully think. It may not help Kumoko since she can't speak human language, but I'm sure Oka took full advantage ot considering she was born surrounded by elves. Also Fei's new color scheme is very similar to Kumoko.

What does keeping them at the same relative age bring to the story? They were all reincarnated with their old memories anyway and are all mentally 15 something years older. Yes, Hugo is a 30-year old Chuuni.

Why does CGI Fei look so much different than Lounge Chair Fei we see in the opening?Super Jay Mann posted:The most damning thing I can say about Shun as the viewpoint character is that Hugo would make for a more interesting protagonist at this point. Hell he's the only human character so far that has anything resembling a proper arc, and he's one of the villains! Shun sucks because everyone else seems to have actual things going on(gender issues, species issues, mega delusions of grandeur, etc) while he's the most white bread, stock, do good things, protagonist dumbass. Any of them would be a more interesting focus, though Fei would absolutely be the best choice since her psychic link with Shun gives her an in to any actual plot relevant Shun POV stuff anyway. Oka would be interesting, but half of the point of the human side seems figuring out what she isn't telling everyone else so she'd be a poor choice as well. Kung Food posted:Do we know that all the students were reincarnated at the same time? We know for sure that Fei was born after Kimiko. All the humans are the same age, and the split timeline between Spider stuff and Human stuff implies Kumiko is the same age as well. From what we can tell everyone was reincarnated at the same time but their actual birth depends on their species' gestation period. Humans had to wait 9 months before being born, then a while longer before they could actually even do anything other than poo poo themselves and cry. Vampires appear to be on the same timeline. Kumiko is a spider, so her egg probably hatched before anyone else even made it to the 3rd trimester. As a dragon-type it's likely, based on general fantasy tropes and her egg being a rock, that Fei's egg would naturally take the longest to hatch out of everyone. Years would be "usual" and her egg probably went through several middlemen before being sold to the King and given as a gift to Shun. So Fei was in egg solitary for up to a decade, probably, stewing on what she did to deserve this poo poo while everyone else woke up as babies. Oka could be up to nearly a year older than everyone else, depending on how elves are born in this world. Maybe elf gestation is weirdass trees that grow baby elf fruits that open when "ripe" and an elf child is ready to come out and feel superior to everyone else. Conversely, elf babies could take longer to gestate in momma elves, but when born have rapid aging to adolescence. As for elf machinations, who the hell even knows. Maybe they're just super anti-vampire and Oka doesn't have anything to do with it.

Yeah, there's a big whole political thing going on in the background taht we're not seeing at the human side and as far as Kumoko is concerned it's still either just beginning or hasn't happened yet.
