Was it Doug that used to write for Jalopnik and did the series of "Will it baby?"

The premise being which cars could fit a car seat, I think.

More people in the 50s lived on farms and knew what a horse collar looked like, though I don't think that was a huge contributor to Edsel's failure

A '56 Cadillac ran into a '59 Edsel. Nine months later, a Nash Metropolitan was born.

The Edsel failed because there was no market for it. It was a large, top-endish car that came out in a recession when everybody wanted smaller cars. It wasn't a bad car, it was equivalent to everything else on the market in terms of quality and features.

It wasn't sufficiently different from the rest of the Ford lineup to justify its existence.

Ultimately, it was an exercise in marketing hubris. Ford thought they could convince people to buy anything they felt like making. They committed to making millions of them, and people collectively said, "meh."

The jokes started when Ford started going berserk trying to get rid of them and people started laughing at their desperation.

The looks I dont think had that much to do with Edsel's failure, it was mostly poorly positioned product launched at the wrong time and with bad mother company support.

As you can see here from the undercarraige, they are quite different, but if I pull on this one and open the other, you will find they fit together perfectly like the luggage on the Koenigsegg we looked at in a previous video

I remember having a discussion with a couple of friends that if any of us got stupid money they'd immediately go out and purchase 3 and we'd spend however long until we got bored/died in an accident driving round Europe.

Photos look like the ones you get from a Japanese vehicle auction, and they would have had to smudge it in two different photos so who knows. Somebody in that twitter thread says it reminded them of the gladiator and I don't know how people can be so wrong.
