These all have the same answer. Starktech developed the image inducer (what Nightcrawler used during Claremont's run to look normal). Obviously, he was handing them out like candy to those who could afford to pay for them (sorry Morlocks).

Morlocks wouldn't have wanted or need them. Looing hideous was an intentional choice to show how they were rejecting human society. They even had Masque who had flesh shaping powers and could make them look however they wanted and the rule was always "look ugly."

Thor took punches to the face from pretty much everyone from Hulk to Thing and shrugged off Iron Man's repulsors, so I'm going to say he's bullet proof and didn't have to twirl his hammer to deflect those bullets.

Why wouldn't he do it though? Just looks like good fun.

E. yup, bullet proof

Prior to the JMS reboot of Thor (which is where the below panels are from) Thor amazingly enough wasn't bulletproof, or if he was, he was so concerned about being shot that he would go out of his way to deflect bullets.

It was something that came up a lot on battle boards (primarily as a way of arguing that Thor was less tough than Superman.) but while there was countless examples pre 2000's of Thor taking lasers, magic blasts, bombs and Hulk punches to the face, very few examples of Thor getting shot and no-selling it.

There were lots of examples of him using his hammer to deflect bullets before they could hit him (and even in, I think Walter Simons run, he was doing it to spear traps set up by a Viking.)
There was also an example in Christopher Priests Black Panther run where Thor is shot in the head with a sniper rifle which breaks his skin and knocks him out*.

I believe comic pros Kurt Busiek and Tom Brevoort would go online a lot to argue how Thor wasn't bullet proof.

*= Even in that story they say that the bullet broke his skin but stopped at his skull. And I think Christopher Priest defended this scene to rabid onlilne Thor fans by saying that the script called for a high-tech Kirby style gun, but the artist (I think Mark Texeria) just drew it as a big modern sniper rifle.

Indeed, it would be like having pebbles flicked at you. Yes, you're not likely to die from it, but you would still prefer not. And he probably couldn't do the eyeball stunt from Superman Returns.

Like I said, Asgardians were super duper loving impressed with assault rifles during the Walt Simonson run, they didn't get shot by them but they liked what they could do to Dark Elves, so they brought a poo poo ton back with them.

I think Thor is more durable than other Asgardians, who are, in turn, more durable than humans. So Thor might be bulletproof, but Volstagg isn't. So long as you're not fighting Thor at the Gjallerbru, an assault rifle might be a good weapon.

I don't know if I'd call it a 'gay joke' so much as just part of the whole 90s 'guys not doing traditional man things is funny' that was often but not always homophobic. 'Man-purse' jokes were similarly rooted in insecure masculinity, and often said by people who'd also find homophobic jokes funny, but by itself isn't homophobic.

A joke doesn't have to be offensive to be outdated and unfunny, and that joke is absolutely outdated and unfunny. C'mon, Spidey, I respect that you're probably rusty, but you can do better than a quip from Friends.

It’s a joke that plays off of patriarchal stereotypes which emboldens bigotry and mockery against anything not conforming to cis hetero standards, so yes, it is definitely a homophobic joke.

Not attacking anyone who said otherwise, it’s an easy joke to obfuscate with what aboutisms, but it’s a joke still rooted in bigoted stereotypes.

It's making fun of a guy for doing something traditionally feminine, which is cheap and beneath Spider-Man.

If it was a better insult that would be an amazing sequence of panels, the art does a lot to sell it.

Superman should also be tubby and out of shape. He gets his incredible strength from the sun and can lift buildings with ease, which makes it difficult to get a proper workout, let alone a bodybuilding routine. He just uses hypnosis to make everyone believe that he's totally chiseled and ripped.

If DC wants to stay relevant, they will give us Fat Naked Schlub Superman, the boldest and most exciting new take on the character since his original conception.

Superman is at least shown to have hyperdense lifting weights in the fortress of solitude and other such things every once in a while so it's not like he's just coasting on his strength. He should probably still look more like a circus strongman than a bodybuilder, like he did in the golden age, but that critique applies to superheroes in general.
