Showing KDA was so dumb cause I was a support main but not "i wanna play support every loving game for the rest of my existence" so if I ever highlighted a carry the team lost their absolute poo poo. If I got any kills on support I got SCREAMED at so that number was never gonna rise. This wasn't even ranked games btw.

HoN is a thing I revisit occasionally and it's a lot of fun. The game definitely is as unbalanced as Dota, but I still really like some of their decisions around items and heroes. I'm not sure if it's still true, but illusions benefitting from attack modifiers items in Dota just doesn't make sense to me, whereas in HoN it just didn't happen. There are a lot of scenarios that leave you scratching your head in Dota which stem from arbitrary decision making, whereas HoN I felt like ability and items were more consistent. ^ this paragraph means I play too many MOBAS

That's an update to me. The legend I'd heard was only that he did backend (harharhar  ) likely web work, and any more was shrouded in mystery because he was so defensive and dodged the topic in interviews.

They were all called "orb effects" though, since were implemented by switching some parameters on warcraft 3's orb items' (orb of venom, orb of lightning, etc). The mechanic of only one being able to be applied, and it being the one closest to the front (or back?) of your inventory was in WC3 for some reason, and since dota 2 was a direct port, it had to be carried over, and at some point they named the mechanic of orbs not stacking to "unique attack modifiers".

Is there any reason they haven't gotten rid of default magic resistance other than the shitwork involved with changing 98% of the spells in the game? It's not really something they play with very much and it's weird that spells don't do the damage they say they do, even to a level 1 hero with no items.

So now you have spells that either do too much to heroes or too little to creeps. Then you have someone say just make it do bonus damage to creeps and now its the same problem the other way and theres already spells that do reduced damage to creeps. It's a bunch of work for nothing and its not like youre going oh wow my attack damage is 110 why did I only hit them for 60 sure is weird that

re: toxicity in dota and not doing anything about it Valve are never going to hire moderators to ban people for things they say in chat. I mean, if they actually cared, they would just auto-punish anyone who says the n-word. The fact that they even let you type it and send it through the chat shows how little they care. But, technically, they can get away with it because they are very up-front about no one monitoring this stuff so there's an air of deniability. One time I got a guy in my game who went on an insane racist tirade and so I recorded it and sent it to Valve customer support. Got a response almost immediately from what was obviously an actual person saying "thank you, we'll look into this but please don't do this again and in the future just use the in-game report system." Buuuuuuut they did end up banning the guy so if you ever see anything like that, make sure to use Valve customer support!

I mean Valve does have a list of slurs because you can block slurs, strong profanity, both, or neither in your communication options. Or you can just not see chat/usernames at all. I guess it's a bit of 'Sorry if you were offended' backhanded way of dealing with it but yeah...
