I'm assuming that's because a decent amount of the roads in Iceland are roads in name only? I'm sure I watched something and some of the F named mountain roads are just rock with several rivers to ford so are only usable by 4x4. I guess these large overspecced lads exist so there's very little chance of getting caught out in the middle of nowhere with your pants down. Even the tour bus is lifted. Even walking around downtown Reykjavik, you see some interesting vehicles.

Among off-road vehicles, the Unimog reigns supreme. All hail the ‘mog.

I get emails from Australian Frontline Machinery, who sell surplus Australian Army stuff. Lots of LandRovers, trailers, "unspecified number of metal cot frames" etc etc that go to auction. Every now and then they have 6*6 'mogs for sale and I get all dreamy about having one, having the space to work on it and rigging it up as a campervan to go around the country. Maybe when the kids have moved out...

+1 Iceland is awesome. And the annual temperature ranges from -20°C to +20°C so it's never really cold or really hot, although and cold and humid will chill you you your bones like nothing else. Also, some of the best roads and not-roads I've ever driven on.

All of this Iceland talk makes me think of Mogfest* in Oregon in the summer. I don't know if they cancelled last year but they congregate around July and drive through the river and are just so cool (but they also make my mother unhappy at vehicles driving in "her" river). Some really, really cool offroad vehicles and the host also has a Ural with a sidecar which is sweet. *edit: Northwest Mogfest, http://www.northwestmogfest.com/

-20°C is colder than the record low recorded in Reykjavik. The average low in the darkest parts of winter is only around -2.5. Winters are not that different, temperature-wise, from New York City Summer high on average is usually around 14°C, or mid-50s F. First winter I spent in Fairbanks it was cold AF. Saw -66*F. Spring came. It was a nice sunny day. I took the top and doors off my FJ40 and went for a drive in a t-shirt and shorts. It was brisk but the heater kept me plenty comfortable. ...When I drove by a bank, the sign said 17*F.

I get that the E-type is a design classic and it is very good looking.... except for the angle of the windscreen. Doesn't do it for me.

Goddamnit, this is going to be like the FedEx arrow and all I'll be able to see now. I think you're 100% correct, and that's a big reason the 2000GT and 275 look so much better.

I think the extreme of the windshield to the long flowing hood and fender line is part of what makes it for me. It’s like an MGB turned up to 27.

I've grown to like the 2+2 y'know. My old man used to work at the Jag Brown's Lane plant and I think the 2+2 is his most hated Jag simply because he said it ruined the E's beautiful looks. He's still mad about it like 50 years later
