Or the 80s and having Cats be the defining cultural moment

What was the theater hell in the 70s, Equus?

70s would be Grease probably, or maybe Chorus Line. For 80s I would think Phantom or Le Mis both bump Cats as being the cultural touchstone. Every honors kid in the tri-state area had the option to go see Phantom in the late 80s early 90s.

It's a movie that's infatuated with its own importance.

Nomadland was interesting but also bland and forgettable, like it almost had a point to make beyond "it sucks being poor" but forgot to make it. I guess it won because it reminded us of how sad we are during the pandemic or something?

It's a fake movie about fakes. A deeply politically engaged book adapted into inoffensive pap.

It felt like rich UCLA film school Hollywood liberals trying to depict a culture they don't understand.

Some teeth long for ripping, gleaming wet from black dog gums. So you keep your eyes closed at the end. You don't want to see such a mouth up close. before the bite, before its oblivion in the goring of your soft parts, the speckled lips will curl back in a whinny of excitement. You just know it.
Maybe Hollywood as a whole can quit it on this relentless "watching movies streaming is somehow Lesser" nonsense at least until movie theaters aren't literal deathtraps again?

Minari was definitely my horse, and I think I personally connected with Sound of Metal more, but makes sense. Nomadland is still a good movie. At least Mank and Chicago 7 didn't win. Mank is boring and Chicago 7 is straight up bad.
