Yesterday it was the day after my wife got the second shot of pfizer and she was super sore, tired and had a massive headache. She spent most of the day sleeping and also realized that she might have been depressed after her second ankle surgery.

Republicans don't necessarily know what yeast is. If it doesn't moo, cluck or oink, it's a vegetable to them.

Ask one what a mushroom is categorically.

And on the vaccine side-effects, Tylenol is always recommended (post-shot) because it never really kills inflammation, just tricks your brain into feeling better. Generally the body's response to a vaccine is to swell up all over as part of the immune response, which is why NSAIDs work so well to kill off those side effects - it's what they're made to fight! And that's why the most paranoid people are sticking to tylenol only.

My second Moderna shot is Wednesday and if it goes like I think it will, on Thursday I'll be pounding both tylenol and aleve all day.

while I'm fine with a champignon being classified as a "vegetable" in a culinary sense the way a peanut is a "nut", I'll disagree that anyone thinks yeast is a vegetable

but sure, all beer is plant based if you ignore the yeast

MAYBE setting the minimum at shall-issue instead of allowing states like NY and CA to have may-issue (if you’re rich/connected enough). Possibly national reciprocity but we’re a long ways off from that.

Really hard to say, depends on how far the Supreme Court takes it. Makes sense for the Supreme Court to take the case to resolve the circuit court disagreement, but with the current court makeup, it's all speculation and probably nothing good.

https://twitter.com/JacobCharlesNC/status/1386695728991453185?s=19

The Supreme Court could absolutely say that the NY gun law forces too many hoop-jumps and adjusts the may-issue standard, but lets NY keep it. They could also turn every single state into a shall-issue state. Could also be nationwide reciprocity. I just know that I sure as gently caress don't want THIS Supreme Court determining the solution.

A lot of Dayquil/Nyquil has Tylenol in it - look on the active ingredient list for acetaminophen and you're good to go. Just remember to never take Dayquil and Tylenol together, as overdosing on acetaminophen will damage your liver.

Eh, this one seems like a good ruling. Reading the article that goes to such lengths to make it look bad in the beginning, the ftc has been using an unrelated law to demand money. The law in question apparently is just about the ftc being able to get an injunction to make the scammer stop, but they had been using it to claim money. Its exactly the same as a cop using their power to stop a crime, then the department just straight billing you for it(which I am sure also happens, but is also something that should be illegal)

If their strongest tool the is ability to fine you on suspicion, maybe they should reconsider their tools

They were basically using injunctions as legal extortion, if they used it to get an injunction against uber to force settlement. "Pay up or don't be allowed to do business"

My understanding of this ruling (which was unanimous) is that the law as written doesn't allow the FTC to do so to begin with, which while not the desired outcome is the only one the court could have really handed down.

I could be pretty dang wrong, of course. I often am.

A bit more here, this could be a bit slanted, but the administration is also pushing back about the general perception that use of the Defense Production Act blocks companies from shipping vaccine components/ingredients elsewhere. This one's from the White House COVID-19 Supply Coordinator:

https://twitter.com/timmy315/status/1386668889715712000

https://twitter.com/timmy315/status/1386668892358168578

I say it could be slanted because there's a lot of information being barfed back and forth. Half of twitter is like BREAK THE DRUG PATENTS THIS IS IMMORAL CAPITALISM (when moderna said in October they're not enforcing their patent and the bigger problem is materials and production methods). The other half is like THE ADMINISTRATION IS DOING NOTHING WRONG (when it's clear we're being prioritized versus other countries).

I don't know a lot about this, but there's a difference between "we're not going to enforce the patent ever" and "we're not enforcing the patent...yet and also you have to agree to these terms and conditions", which has Moderna gone with? Because, I could see drug makers being real hesitant to go all in on spinning up production of a generic if it's the second.

That may not be a lot of people, but any moth the dems can lead to their flame, and whatnot.

It definitely helps that the roll-out has gone better than anticipated, but we need to be helping other countries now that vaccine clinic freezers are stocked and we're anticipating a stall anyhow.

India is pretty hosed for now regardless, it's going to take months to reign in covid there.

How hosed are places we like to occupy? Are we doing anything to help vaccinate Afghans or Iraqis?

Y'all basically got it, from what I see: https://www.fiercepharma.com/pharma/leading-vaccine-player-moderna-won-t-enforce-patents-against-other-companies-during-pandemic https://www.wsj.com/articles/moderna-vows-to-not-enforce-covid-19-vaccine-patents-during-pandemic-11602154805

quote:

“We’re not interested in using that IP to decrease the number of vaccines available in a pandemic,” Hoge told the WSJ. Further, the company is open to licensing its technology after the pandemic. Moderna made the pledge in response to investor questions around its patents, Hoge told the newspaper.

The general non-evil position is that if Moderna just willy-nilly says "here's how you make our vaccine", you get a lot of poo poo-quality vaccines made in locations like Emergent that make everything worse. Licensing it makes sure that whatever facilities make the vaccine make it right, with the side-effect of oodles and oodles of money back to Moderna.
