This is really a very good way to use it. I put a big honking spoonful in when I'm making chili, for instance, which I now do with Beyond or Impossible. Just adds to the umami meatiness of it all. You'd never know it wasn't actual meat.

Chicken beer is one of those rite of passage recipes that you make when you're learning how to home brew. Charlie included it in his classic "Complete Joy of Homebrewing". I've done it before, but it's not popular for a reason. It's basically just including some chicken during the wort process. If there's any actual meat in the finished product then the brewer hosed up their sieve.

Anyway, Republicans are full of poo poo constantly, and it's safe to assume that all these culture warriors are just lying to each other like they always are, regardless of topic.

Yes, it is an absurdly enormous quantity of meat. It is possible for a large man to eat that much in a 24-hour period, but you wouldn't do it accidentally even just from being a meat eating enthusiast who went to an all-day barbeque festival or something. It would have to be a very specific and very stupid jackass goal you set out to achieve, and it wouldn't be fun.

Since this is a pilot program, there are probably a lot of fixed costs to having a campground which begin to be needed right at homeless person #1, and if you decide to go all-in and scale it up for more people, then not all of those fixed costs will go up.

Matt Gaetz putting out a list of things he has never exchanged for sex has a very "I never had sex with a male Flamingo" vibe.

quote:

"I have never, ever paid for sex,” Gaetz wrote.

"None of these transactions were in exchange for sex. Those gifts? No. The vacations? No. There were no official acts exchanged for sex. The travel expenses, accommodations, and other expenses for our trips to the Bahamas were paid for by Mr. Pirozzolo and I had nothing to do in planning any exchange for those accommodations."

It was never about sex, Gaetz maintains.

"I did not exchange any drugs for sex. I did not exchange money for sex. I did not exchange any official acts for sex."

quote:

Gaetz neither sought nor provided “arrangements” for women in exchange for sex.

The “arrangement” in question is from Seeking Arrangement, a dating site focused on creating “sugar daddy” or “sugar momma” relationships in which one partner provides, according to the website, “fine dinners, exotic trips and allowances” in exchange for “companionship.”

Gaetz, along with his buddy, former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg, would reportedly host parties in which women from Seeking Arrangement would attend. The New York Times reported that Gaetz and Greenberg would also meet the women at hotels around Florida, with the men footing the bill.

The Florida congressman says that sex may have occurred, but denies that he exchanged anything for any sex that he may or may not have had.

quote:

The New York Times and the Daily Beast have both reported that money transfer apps like Venmo and CashApp appear to show transactions between Gaetz, Greenberg, and young women.

The Daily Beast’s report says that Gaetz venmo-ed Greenberg, who then sent cash onwards to an 18-year-old recipient.

“The last time I had a sexual relationship with a seventeen year old, I was seventeen,” Gaetz told the Daily Beast.

I think that's basically what's going to happen--any seats lost in blue states will be GOP reps' seats. I imagine a Dem rep from Ohio will get gerrymandered out, but WV losing a seat is just a loss for the GOP, since all of their reps are, well, GOP.

Given that TX and FL were initially projected to get 3 extra seats each, this could've been much worse.

Texas will make sure both new ones are red though, to make up for it. And maybe even try to gerrymander another blue one out of existence for good measure. Redistricting is going to be dirty as hell anywhere they can get away with it.

California has a non-partisan redistricting committee and one of the requirements is to attempt to maximize "competitive" districts. It is in no way assured that Devin Nunes' seat is the one that will be gerrymandered out and if it is, then it doesn't mean that his district will be evenly carved out to fill out heavily democratic districts.

Its been a while since the last redistricting, but if I recall even though California has an independent redistricting commission that can't consider partisan voting behavior, due to the weird way that Republicans in CA have gathered into their enclaves a "non-partisan" map ended up being a pretty decent gerrymander and the Dems did pretty well. It turns out that if you truly do want a fair map in CA (at least 10 years ago), you did need to examine partisan factors.

Larry Kudlow went on Fox either last night or the night before and invented this claim about 90% red-meat reduction and "plant-based beers". Nobody seems to have asked him what the hell kind of meat beers he was used to.

The Fox graphic gives a hint: it is, in fact, from the University of Michigan. Kudlow appears to have googled something like "emissions red meat", and found IMPLICATIONS OF FUTURE US DIET SCENARIOS ON GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS. The paper presents four scenarios and provides projections for diet-based emissions for each of them; scenario 4 describes a 51% reduction in diet-based emissions if Americans reduce their red meat intake by 90%. (I have to assume that he got the number of pounds per year from the number of the scenario, since the paper specifically states that a 90% reduction would still leave Americans eating 50.1 pounds of beef a year.)

It is worth noting that the paper was published in January 2020 and has nothing to do with Joe Biden, the federal government, or the Green New Deal, and that while it presents a possible partial solution for the US's commitment to reduce emissions, it does not make any recommendations, let alone any binding regulations.

i'm sorry, is this implying that the average american is eating over 500 lb of beef a year or over 1.37 lbs of beef a day? that can't be possible, i refuse to believe it

edit: okay, quick googling shows that some wires getting crossed somewhere. no way does a 90% reduction leave us at 50 lbs a year, based on who you're asking it's somewhere in the range of 5-9 lbs a year
