No idea who that it is and it wasn't a Tarkov streamer, but someone I randomly watched today because he was playing a new game. CohhCarnage, who by all accounts is a decent guy, but he had a chat command that was basically "CohhCarnage is currently driving this *insanely expensive luxury bike* but will be driving this *other insanely expensive luxury bike* when it arrives!". I was like, cool, this guy is into bicycles and getting outdoors, that's neat. Then I looked them up and they were like 75k each.

it's definitely not something that makes me personally inclined to give them money, but I think it goes with the territory of being demographically biased towards being 20-something idiots from at least modestly affluent backgrounds who have a job that (among the small minority who succeed) rapidly balloons their income to six figure+ territory while simultaneously encouraging them to live like shut-ins with their parents or in group housing situations - they suddenly have more money than they necessarily know what to do with, a career path that hasn't necessarily taught them the value of money, not much to spend it on, and a fancy car is like the archetypal sign of material success showing someone has "made it"

idk, maybe I'm wrong but it seems somewhat like the tendency of newly enlisted guys to make poor decisions regarding trucks and low end sports cars (except presumably paid for in cash and not financed by potentially ruinous debt from predatory lenders)

(that impression is reinforced by the fact that most of the luxury cars I see streamers acquire generally aren't actually lambos or astons, but higher end Subarus or Teslas)

not saying it's not bad form on their part to highlight it, but it hardly seems worth getting worked up over any more than a professional athlete - I guess it's just that the dynamic feels different because it's a weird hybrid of busking and parasocial intimacy? and/or because of the disconnect between how successful streamers present themselves/actually are and their incomes?

CohhCarnage is actually a decent case-in-point, he's currently got ~13,500 subs (which appears to be about average for him since 2018 on), which means he's clearing close to a half million a year before taking donations + paid promotions (or higher tier subs + more favorable contract terms) into account - obviously he'll have business expenses too, but absent the context of Twitch that's an income level where you wouldn't think twice about someone buying a $75k bike (but conversely such people also don't usually ask you directly for $5 or whatever)

Orv
May 4, 2011
That's way more than I'd pay for any bike on earth but I feel like that's a fairly innocuous hobby to nerd out about and connect with viewers on, which I assume is what's happening there rather than gross flaunting but I suppose 50/50.

What do you think made this game, which I believe has been the number 1 game on "twitch" "TTV" so attractive to the extremist/gamer "twitch" community, the vital financial lifeline for those people?

The un-PC russian developers with their unwavering commitment against representing women and people of color? The no-holds-barred obsessive fetishized enthusiasm for gun minutia? Pandering to the community with 'memes' like "kek"? Widespread use of "incel" jargon like "chad"? The big role for "crypto" in the game?

The developers even feature links to "twitch" "TTV" stuff on the launcher for the game, they are clearly cultivating this poo poo!

God drat do I love my some slim diaries. Single best item for turning roubles into dollars. I've probably turned 6-7 million roubles into dollars via just slim diaries, and at a profit. For some strange reason, people love to sell them as low as 20k, which turns into 278 dollars. I just buy every single slim diary under 27k, but I could go as high as like 34k and still make a slight amount.

It's not even rare either. At any given moment I can check the stock and find some for cheap, but if not, I just wait a few minutes and more get listed.

Also, I rediscovered my love of the PP-19-01 Zenit and may have gone a little overboard with buying them. I have 10 in my inventory just waiting to get lost in a raid. I love a gun that costs 70k, but still lets me put up a fight against PMCs. Granted, I gotta be smart with it, because a 30rd magazine doesn't go very far, but as long as you are careful that poo poo will take care of you.

Edit: damnit, I should have kept my mouth shut about the slim diaries. Since I made this post, every diary has been way more than they used to be. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence because the Tarkov heroes of SomethingAwful have known about them since before Nikita, but gently caress me if I didn’t go from making tons of USD off them to nothing.

apparently we're supposed to be freaking out that EFT is somehow funding right wing terrorism or justifying its existence because of incredibly vague allusions/guilt by association or something? or concluding Twitch is a hotbed of white nationalism because EFT exists?(?!?)

because the demographics of a high(ish) end PC-only milsim shooter best known for completely over-the-top levels of gun porn naturally skewing a bit to the right of the general Twitch audience is clearly a sign of deliberate social malfeasance with cryptically sinister origins and certainly not a head-smackingly obvious outcome for anyone with two brain cells to rub together

just really loving bad/low effort trolling (and it's not like there aren't interesting discussions to be had when it comes to Tarkov's popularity streaming centered around its development model, degree to which its gameplay design makes it enjoyable to watch, why it blew up with the original drops campaign, etc., though most of them have already been touched upon in this thread)

So if anyone tries to get you to visit a "twitch" or "TTV" link or is trying to push that poo poo, remember about how birds of a feather flock together and consider they probably aren't someone you want anything to do with.

Been telling people for a long time not to get mixed up with that crap and warning them about it, so its good to see it start to get picked up by real journalism.

Twitch should be for charismaless fucks mumbling about the games they are playing or attractive people failing at playing a game. Also for creeping. That's all. This is a public service announcement.

I find it's the opposite. More fun to play than watch. Especially once you hit 10 and buy real ammo and a scope.

It's popular because lots of people are playing, it's fun to watch, and watching others helps your game too.

I find it's fun to watch when people are good at it. Lupo or Landmark do some amazing things that make the game look really fun. Then you realize those are the guys who zap you 30 seconds into a raid before you even know where you've spawned in at.

It's about as close as I could get it. SIG Romeo4 in game, I have a Romeo5. Surefire light on the side, just used a generic in game light. That's a 10" Troy rail on a 10.5" barrel and the game had a 10.25" barrel and a 9.5" DD rail. I thought about using an adar receiver for semi-auto super IRL accuracy but meh.

Been having a ton of fun lately running the t-5000. I didn't realize how good this was. It seems like a super intimidating rifle but it's honestly a very cheap rifle that fires M61 for 100k. Just stick a suppressor on it and fill a couple mags with M61. Keep some extras in your secure and go at it. I was comparing rifle stats and it had better stats than a few sniper rifles with mods. It also has maybe the most satisfying THWACK sound of any gun i've fired. It can't be modded, really, other than a suppressor. It's a stock rifle that has great stats.

Worth trying if you are at the stage of Tarkvo where you are just trying poo poo out.

Edit: Also, it qualifies as a sniper rifle for skill levels. This was one of the main reasons I tried it. I was looking at leveling the sniper rifle skill level and it was one of the listed rifles. Many people use other than sniper rifles, such as marksman rifles or even assault rifles to snipe and the t-5000 is one of the few weapons that actually qualify as a sniper rifle. In addition, it has a small magazine for refilling. Great gun to level skills off of.

Just to note, after they implemented skill fatigue a while back, you'll probably level sniper faster by just shooting scavs with it, as opposed to the old just-reload-all-the-time method. Also, snipers with magazines can be just standard reloaded (switching mags) for the skill exp, you dont have to topload for the skill ups.

Yea, it's kind of just a personal use thing. I love how accurate it is.

Anyway, my last few scav runs have been so lucky I completely filled up my inventory with incidental loot. I go into the catacombs and find bodies with slicks, meta M4's, etc. So I went from a completely clear inventory to full up of stuff to use. We've reached that point in the wipe where people just run the best gear and almost don't care about looting more of it.

Edit: 4/4 of successful Reserve night runs. Last one resulted in my shooting a dude through the face and walking away with an RSASS with REAP-IR.

Go do Reserve night runs as a scav, if you aren't already. You are guaranteed to walk away with amazing loot.

5/5: Something is wrong or karma in Tarkov exists. My Reserve scav runs are insane right now.
