I don't particularly like the cartoon art style for the texture, but I guessed I should ask.

its a good game if u can get it cheap. short and theres like two wall textures but the guns are fun. play the demo

Thing is, I couldn't give a hoot if the dev drew guro porn for fun and proft in his own free time. More power to him! This isn't about a milkshake-duck effect, but rather that the game itself is thinly veiled smut with not much merit as an actual shooter. If it was a bit more upfront about it, like all those awful adult anime 'dating' games, it'd still be icky but at least its advertising itself to the right crowd, instead of people looking for a retro-fps and getting an eyeful.

I did not notice any weird fetish poo poo in the game. theres lots of anime girls but not porn or anything like that that I can recall. its a completely serviceable shooter with some fun mechanics

Finally got around to watching Noah's essay on Jedi Knight. I never realized how esoteric Mysteries of the Sith was, but I was totally that nerd ready to lap up that bullshit. It was also kind of interesting to contrast The Last Jedi's elder Luke to the later Jedi Knight game's elder Luke. Overall nothing all that notable over the 2 hours, but still a thorough and comprehensive analysis of the series that does the subject material justice. Just kinda 2 hours of :hmmyes:

I find it weird that the Early FPS thread has declared a game with excessive gore to be an outlet for the developer's gore fetish. Surely there haven't been any classic FPS games with lots of gibs. Also the goon kneejerk to label anything anime related as porn.

The game was recommended to me through Steam's algorithm a while back and nothing looked particularly 'porny' to me; it just looks like another indie shooter.

I think I did play all of Mysteries of the Sith, and I don't remember it being so crazy hard. The last level looked familiar to me. But that's the case with a lot of games from my youth. I guess I was willing to put up with a lot more BS when I didn't have anything important to do with my time.
I remember feeling like Jedi Knight was the best game ever, and the memory that sticks out to me the most is that skyscraper level with the vents and stuff, which was an example shown in the video. I can't remember much else about it, as I think I only played it once. I can get the sense that it's a very intimidating game with those massive sprawling environments and stuff.
He definitely nailed what felt off about Jedi Academy. It's a very good lightsaber game, but the story elements are way more "remember Star Wars thing?" which makes sense considering the state of the franchise was pretty different at that point compared to the DF days.

I love Jedi Knight and MotS, and for MotS that's probably partly due to growing up on it making me biased, but I still enjoy it today. That said I don't disagree with any of Noah's criticisms, and think he gave a fair and easy to relate with perspective on why it's definitely not for everyone. The huge levels that engine had and the movement just feel too fun for me, I'll be a fan for life.

the dev's personal twitter makes it very clear that it is a sex thing. that said i think the game looks cool and if you can turn the fetish stuff off i'd probably play it. extreme hentai isn't my thing but it's whatever. all part of the glorious tapestry of human life

Like, have you actually looked at the game? The way that every single enemy is an anime girl that when exploded always keeps the face intact so you can see dead anime girl eyes with gibs lying everywhere? And how body horror-y the bosses and some NPCs are? Like it's not that the game is violent, it has a distinctive stink. You have to be willfully ignoring the fetish material or extremely dense not to see it.

Something about the shooting feels kind of wonky too, too generous with hitboxes or something, you can just fire in the general direction of enemies and they'll collapse without a sense that you connected with center mass, maybe it's just an issue of coming to it from playing blood and duke3d.

It's fixable by enabling Low Latency mode for the game in the Nvidia Control Panel and locking FPS at 60 with RTSS. Either way you want to play with either VoidSW or Raze for a decent experience (ideally the latter so could can turn off WangTalk altogether)

He seems to be blinded by nostalgia for the specific games that he played as a kid. While the level design in MotS is a step up in obtuseness from Jedi Knight, there's just as much un-intuitive bullshit in Dark Forces, and far, far more in Jedi Outcast. He does at least mention the problems with JO, but if any game in the series deserves to be the jumping off point for a rant on inscrutable level design, it's JO, not MoTS, which is positively sane by comparison.

That's the best approach. Making it look too new would mean they would have to redo just about everything else or the assets end up discordant.

Yeah, I would much rather have them give stuff a slight bump versus slapping 8096x8096 pixel textures on sparse hallways or 50,000 polygon monkeys in barren boxy rooms.

In truth, the Thief engine that SS2 was running on was outdated in 1999. There were contemporary graphics engines that were capable of the remastered graphics on display.

The thing I really don't like is that they have the original jank riggings and animation, but I'm sure that's a place holder.

I hope that's a place holder. Otherwise the Rumbler is going to be COMICAL.

No, the dismembered Aheago (s?) faces make it porn. Or rather, the very clear guro fetish that the game is based around. If it was a Duk3d mod that had the PC running around collecting photos of woman's feet would you also defend that? Lack of sex != not porn.

(Oh, and the main character isn't shown fully on Steam as the complete image shows a prepubescent girl in a full body thong. Just as an aside.)

Also I hate that I know these words and that these things exist, I feel dirty for having to type that poo poo out. Can we change the topic?
