I am late to the Snarky Puppy hype train but I am totally on board and looking for something similar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Qo1NFwMhBA). I've enjoyed some of the other fusion stuff I've found - Weather Report (RIP), Lydian Collective, Animals as Leaders, Chick Corea (RIP) - but I love the sound Snarky Puppy gets with these huge big-band style arrangements and stupidly talented rhythm sections, and I haven't found anything else like it. And they're so drat clean.

It’s not fusion, but if you like the impressive sound of a whole lot of very technically proficient musicians playing very tight, some of Kamasi Washington’s stuff is like that. There’s a video of him doing a bunch of stuff from The Epic for NPR concerts.

Ultrafilter mentioned Avantasia, and I'm gonna second that especially. The latest album, Moonglow, is just especially vibrant and bursting with joy. Very Jim Steinman-esque. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYvZOe6cmeM That said, they're also right in that power metal in general is probably your best bet. You mentioned classic Rainbow, and their song "Kill the King" is basically proto power metal, kind of. I'm throwing out Unleash the Archers as another particular band rec. They're some of the hottest poo poo in the genre at the moment, and for good reason. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yFH-O05uS0 EDIT: A very quintessential "feel good" metal/hard rock album for me is Electrified by Pink Cream 69. I have this group of friends I have a summer cabin BBQ party with every summer, and this album has been a mainstay at this event for over 15 years now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfcrmEXStts Quite possibly the most outrageously catchy rock chorus ever. I’m always surprised at how much prog there is out there, old and new. Every now and then I start down a rabbit hole of new stuff and there is an intimidating amount. I’m mostly into fuzzier psych organ stuff though, which seems to narrow the scope a little. More synth heavy prog-ish stuff: Umphrey’s McGee. They’re really a jam band, but they have a lot of really complex arrangements, long songs with multiple sections, less of a verse-chorus structure, and a lot of technical proficiency. But they also just noodle and shred incessantly, so it’s not prog for a purist.

I feel like a turd, because I have no idea what I like about music, and have never really thought critically about music other than making a few tracks (like less than a minute long,) for tiny animations and what not... I just want music that I'll like, for whatever reason I can't get Spotify or Pandora to show me things I like anymore, and it's either because of gummed up the system with too many conflicting Genres, or my taste is just really bad. I don’t even know how to get started with the stuff on the OP So I guess genres, in order of liking them, with the songs in a rough order of favorite, and 3 or four things from my playlist that I like that’s like that: What I like falls into a few categories though, I love musicals, or songs with a story like: My favorite in this category: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CexqYQcprr8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrZolM3uCds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PSP2Adz5j8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Zi4N1DJDW8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFgGYhMGxj8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBro_H346dI I guess I also what i can only describe as thirst trap music: My favorite? Aside but I play a game where people recommend songs to each other and there is a slice of people out there who are pretty hard to recommend songs too, even for players who have borderline encyclopedic knowledge of recent and current bands etc.. The only thing I can put my finger on is some people really love songs when they're tied to how they were feeling when they first heard it, or (similarly) they're tied to a time in their life or an event or a vacation or relationship, or they saw the band live etc. (They also are bad song recommenders for similar reasons).

Some of the stuff I didn't like at first ended up being my all-time favorites!! So in your position I'd look for a big compilation of this and just pull up stuff on YouTube at random. Even if you don't end up liking it, hey, at least you can say you've heard [x classic song or album] if someone mentions it in conversation. More specific, you seem to like a lot of recent fun pop songs, so some older pop jams could scratch the same itch. I'm not sure how "obvious" to start with, but... do you like Prince? And Michael Jackson? The pop songs seem to have a somewhat-danceable rhythmic pulse to them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXJhDltzYVQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yURRmWtbTbo and continuing the trio of "stuff my mom would play so loud when I was a kid that I could hear it from the street" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWurqD68u70 I can't be as much help on the "girl with acoustic guitar" part because most of that isn't my sort of music, but there's a chance this is a fun catchy song that you could enjoy too (total shot in the dark that other people will probably make fun of me for including though): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=onidGbvHSb4

I've had success in the past by starting a Spotify radio station based on one specific song that has the sound I want and going from there. I don't think that gets affected by the other stuff you listen to, it's just "play more like this." You still get some wild misses, but I've discovered some good music that way, and it's sometimes surprising how good the algorithm is at matching styles.
