it's like, you know that other people are judging you, and you don't like it, so it makes you mad that I'm pointing out that yeah, this is how most regular people seem to be reacting to the situation

it's like.... you don't want to be reminded of something that's hurtful to you in some way

interesting, but fortunately that has no import on a discussion about masks, or how to motivate mask compliance, because we can all just shriek about who can dump on the new thread villain the hardest. this is the poo poo i'm talking about

People are really loving dumb about aggregate risk. Here's how OSHA sets risk levels for carcinogens:

quote:

For each chemical identified as a carcinogen, this level corresponds to the 95% lower confidence limit of the risk estimate of one excess cancer case in 10,000 workers in a 45-year working lifetime.

COVID risk is way higher than that. PPE makes sense if you're in situation where you are more likely to be exposed. Anyone arguing that people shouldn't take reasonable and easy precautions is an idiot.

Seasonal flu is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and half a million hospitalizations every year in the US alone, all of which would be severely reduced if we took it more seriously. Pretty fun seeing assholes claiming to liberal unironically using “are you pussies scared of the flu too?” If we weren’t a society of sociopaths we’d normalize mask wearing during flu season anyway (plus mandatory paid sick leave, etc).

Gotta live your life.

once again I'm reminded of how people would talk about "gosh maybe we can take some lessons out of this" in the first half of 2020 where they hoped hand-washing and mask-wearing would become more commonplace even after the pandemic just so we could cut down on deaths completely unrelated to COVID but could be prevented by mask-wearing and improved hygiene all the same

Looks like Bangalore is rapidly unraveling. Cops have set up a barricade on the street leading to the CMs house in fear of people going there demanding hospital beds. A BJP politician blamed a bed scam specifically on the 17 Muslims in a Bengaluru covid war room, publicly naming and shaming them. However, while the bed scam is apparently real the MP in question may have been involved and they are now demanding his arrest.

we just had the smallest number of new enrollees in social security since the early 90's. Part of the big problem in the budgets of SS/Medicare right now is we have a comparatively large number of enrollees vs. the number of new people entering the workforce. (i.e. they were designed with the idea that population only go up.)
