Hmmm indeed. I'm still hanging on to the last theory I had about her somehow being a merge of Mother and the parallel minds. After comparing her and Mother's stats it's notable that they have a lot of the same skills but the Demon Lord has upgraded versions. There are so many it's hard to say but I believe every skill Mother had, Ariel does too.

Also Ariel doesn't have the Humanization skill that Fei does, so that's her real form.

Mother was appraised what feels like just a few days ago and Ariel has a lot of titles neither Kumoko nor Mother had, like Fairy Calamity or Ancient Divine Beast. Ariel also is Origin Taratect Lvl. 139, while Mother is Queen Taratect Lvl.89. Remember that evolving resets your level to 1.
That's just too much progress in such a short time.

It's a stealth skill. You probably get points towards it any time an enemy who hunts or defends itself by scent doesn't catch yours.

If that was the case then magic brain's warning at the end of the episode makes no sense

Kumoko has shown that you can gets titles pretty quickly and she is outside now so if she went on a rampage and slaughtered a village of fairies etc it could match up. It's also not impossible considering how wacky some of the skills and titles get. Maybe the Demon Lord title's effects put you at max evolution with your same level or something. Humans also apparently give a bunch of exp so if she destroyed a city that would justify it. As for Magic Brain's warning, I was think that that could be a trick.

I mainly just think that if, after so much teasing and set up, the answer to 'Who is the Demon Lord' is 'Some chick who appears out of nowhere and attacks Kumoko for no reason' that would be lame.

That's a lot of assumptions. We also know Ariel is still the demon lord years later, so it's not like she came out of nowhere. If she's the Original Taratect, maybe she came to clean up the mess that's happening because Mother is chasing Kumoko across the country. That administrator also came to look when someone killed a dragon and only backed off when D said it's fine.

Why should Magic Brain 1's warning be a trick when there really was Ariel approaching? What advantage would be in that?

If the Hero title is transfered upon death of the previous holder, might Demon Lord work the same way? It seems to be the polar opposite.
It didn't immediatly level up Shun. Ariel could have been the Demon Lord bombing the class room, or their successor. Since Kuro is working with her, he's either gone rogue or she isn't the same demon lord. Her spacial magic is also only Lvl. 2.

I don't think it's no reason, her race is origin taratect (As in the origin of the taratects) and one of her skills is kin control so she would be aware of big momma being messed with and everything else kimiko has been up to. Her attack also happened immediately after the puppet was killed so that was most likely an "Enough is enough" point for Ariel.

On top of that one of her titles is Ancient Divine Beast, which would be odd for something just created.

While I have complaints about the direction of the fights and the decisions made regarding the adaption compared to the source material, particularly the manga I do think the anime gets across a good chunk of what makes the fights and emotional journey Kumoko goes through and what makes them engaging.

Episode 17:

This was probably the most traditional Fantasy Isekai story bit we've had in this anime so far. It's kind of funny how starkly it throws the rest of the show into contrast.

I thought scene with all the Remnants of the Nightmare was well done. Nearly exactly what I pictured in my head when reading it.

Fei being a total bad-rear end is fun. I get the feeling she could have clowned on that Earth Dragon a lot more if she wanted to.

Basgath seems like a cool guy, putting aside him punching Shun, the talk they had about the importance of running away is kinda sweet.

lol at the joke of Kumoko's house always being burned down turning into this cautionary tale adventurers tell around a campfire. If the vestiges didn't go all Nier: Automata I would've assumed they were just the manifestation of anger Kumoko felt anytime her house caught fire.

It sounds like it is related to what she ponders how to avoid getting her soul erased. It could utilize Mother, if she somehow takes her over. Ariel could affect one, though.

The punch was extremely justified. Unlike nearly everyone else in the story, Shun doesn't think anything through. He might have been willing to risk his life by angering the vestiges, but he gave no consideration to the fact that the other six could have been killed too. Even after hearing Basgath's running away advice, his brain was still stuck in "but I have to fight!" mode.

Other than that, I laughed aloud when Fei levelled the dragon in one hit, it was great. In celebration of a good episode, have a tiny Kumoko ╭(·o:┬┬:o·)╮

I would personally say Katia or Fei are. They've not been done justice in the anime.

Sue is also a lot stronger of a character in the LN's than in the anime.
