It's an amazing clip. People are still furious about austerity and aim that fury at the party who isn't even in charge of that. An utter failure to communicate to the public.

They're 100% spot on and it's supremely rage inducing to see the all people who think they are the ones to be teaching lessons about the north piling in calling them thick.

Yes the tories caused all those problems and yes voting labour is, for the moment, the best way to reverse that.

Hartlepool has been voting labour for 50+ years tho, including a 13 year stretch where labour was in power, and... this is result. They've more than fulfilled their end of the bargain, I'm not surprised they're trying something new.

Mandelson is by a mile the single labour figure most responsible for that constituency. It was his for a decade in which labour held real power and it's frankly a miracle the party has held on locally as long as it has.

100 million per year to get to 2 billion by 2040. Which tbf is still probably more ambitious than aiming to reach 143 million per year by 2035, depends how you slice it

I guess it's sensible to rack up all of these policies that originated from Corbynite Labour and compare the reaction as a kind of sanity check but no one who opposed them the first time around will change their minds about the left just because the right is now saying it'll do the same thing.

NotJustANumber99

somehow that last av was even worse than your posting
It says double tree planting to 80 million a year within 4 years, which would mean planting over a billion trees by 2035 if it ramped up to 143million (weirdly specific number?) a year.

Sounds good I guess, like lots of policies do as people in here have said recently of tory policies.

I imagine theres some serious grifting to be done in getting those trees planted. subsidies to land owners to put in trees, companies set up by friends of friends to claim all the tree planting contracts etc.

Only a 2500 vote majority in 2019. 6500 votes for an Independent so can't really call where they'll go but I doubt they'd hold it given the recent results, especially since 1600 votes for the Brexit party should end up with the Tories.

also even if there are people stupid enough to believe that he always intended to promote her, I suspect Rayner isn't one of them so thats going to be a very normal and functional dynamic and everyone will absolutely believe that they're one big happy family and not a scheming nest of vipers

I still can't believe how bad he is at this, once you've leaked that someone is going they should just be gone

There are 4 jobs higher in seniority to 'Party chair' available to Kier. Shadow Home Sec/Chancellor/Foreign office and Leader of the Opposition. So hes basically got to Sack Dodds, Nandy or Symonds. Any of those will result in a leadership challenge imo.

Wikipedia's "Ministerial ranking" page has Amanda Milling (Chair of the Conservative Party) as the lowest-ranking cabinet minister.

not sure sacking dodds is going to be the thing that does him in, he's just a career administrator who cant make a decision.

they'll let him carry on a few months until batley and spen because a. who wants to catch that falling knife and b. what's he going to do to recover at that point? re-reshuffle? it's not a deck of cards
