8chan is just worse Nazis. 4chan is still a unrepentant and open Nazi website.
8chan was Nazis and pedophiles so odious 4chan could not tolerate them. Masterchan is for pedophiles so vile even 8chan can't countenance them. And I'm sure there's probably some website for folks run out of Masterchan.

It's turtles all the way down, only instead of turtles it's Nazi pedophiles.

I realize that this thread is 99% made for pointing and laughing at weird sex things on Steam but it also has occasionally hosted some genuine discussion.

This is kind of weird since Steam has an almost carte blanche laissez-faire attitude towards what is put on it nowadays but apparently this, without any explicit reasoning, is over the line.

https://www.pcgamer.com/steam-rejects-vr-sex-experience-holodexxx/

I mean Steam is currently hosting House Party, which features a real-life porn model in it, as well as Subverse which has some incredibly explicit sex scenes, but for some reason, this particular product is getting snubbed despite the fact that Russian hentai match games with stolen art that probably play into the seedy card/achievement underworld of Steam are posted by the dozens each week.

The tears of time
No image board memes or sexual assault. Seems like a bad culture fit for Steam.

edit: they should have just lied their asses off in the description like the Rapelay people did for Koikatsu. No high school sex simulators here! This is a character customizer. I doubt Steam's content review team bothers to play much or any of the actual game that gets submitted. Valve's modus operandi is taking as little responsibility as possible while paying the fewest number of humans possible to do it.

Based on how Valve has handled this stuff in the past, they distinguish "real" and "non-real" pornography. If something features images of real people doing it, you're definitely out.

Obviously this distinction gets murky when you use real actors but scan their performances and portray that data using 3D models.

The fact that Steam's staff isn't willing to give a detailed explanation of what they deem acceptable or how they define 'pornography' is hilarious, but I'm sure this could've gotten accepted if it was dressed up as a more traditional game experience.

They're using the same "I know it when I see it" logic as the supreme court on obscenity lol

Yeah, its a total mess. I feel somewhat bad for the devs but porn games do extremely well on Patreon so I'm sure they'll figure something out.

I'd guess the reason valve never explains their decisions is that if they set a precedent establishing exactly where the lines are drawn, and if the public had access to the rationale behind why [X] is ok but [Y] is not; then valve would have to put some actual effort into making consistent decisions instead of being completely arbitrary, and they would be create the expectation of being more actively involved in content approval instead of sitting on their hands while the money flows in and occasionally reacting to whatever seems like bad PR or generates a lot of complaints.

The first line of the article probably shows the problem "The future of adult entertainment is photo-realistic adult stars in virtual reality". Valve's guidelines specifically say that you can't have images of real people so maybe this crossed the (mostly invisible) line. What is too close to real people is, apparently, up to whatever intern they have looking at this stuff. But yeah, like has been said, Valve is probably keen NOT to give clear guidelines so that they can avoid anything approaching a fuzzy area.

good case in point would be the Rape Day controversy of a couple years back, where Valve announced they wouldn't sell the game but did so in a statement that very deliberately declined to specify what content standards the game fell short of

Valve has some hippy-dippy "everyone is their own boss" management structure. Mucking through the 872 billion horrible, horrible games on Steam is something no one wants to do, so they give it to some intern who does a half-rear end job.

They only pulled Rape Day after it started to get news coverage from non-games media. House party added some streamer who has an only fans account, but she isn't someone who would be considered a porn star. Holodexxx's VR stuff featuring prominent porn stars is different, it's something that might attracting attention beyond whoever is currently buying steam porn games. I think that is the real rule is nothing that may get wider attention and cause parents to uninstall steam. Compared that to the million asset flip hentai games or even more high profile adult games like Hunie Pop or Subverse all of which passes well under the radar of what most people ever hear about.

The article mentions that the devs think that's exactly the issue:

quote:

Earlier this year, Valve rejected an application for pickup-artist training tool Super Seducer 3 to be sold on Steam, telling its creator "Steam does not ship sexually explicit images of real people". Holodexxx's developer has assumed their products fell foul of the same rule, saying, "Our hunch is that Steam does not like the idea of nude models based on photogrammetry scans, but for their own reasons, are not willing to declare it."

If porn game developers were smart, they would make a bunch of low effort porn games that all feature real people, then submit them at different times and days of the week in order to figure out when the shifts with the most permissive approvers happen.

They moved away from that format in some way in the lead-up to releasing HL:A, after acknowledging it had prevented them from getting any new releases done. Not sure of the extent of the shift though

quote:

MATURE CONTENT DESCRIPTION
The developers describe the content like this:

There are three girls in the Succubus Cafe, Lilith, Isis, and Iris

There is a lot of sexual content in the game.
There are scenes of non-consensual sex in the plot.

Once a succubus reaches 18 years of age… She will always look 18. All three girls are therefore adults.
