DO YOU HEAR THAT? THAT'S THE SOUND OF ME PATTING MYSELF ON THE BACK.

I'm going to stand by my theory that on top of nailing the Blue Morpho's wife, he really did some SCIENCE with respect to getting Malcolm conceived and forgot to sterilize the equipment when he tried to clone himself. So, Rusty is actually a full brother to Malcolm and he absorbed the actual clone that Jonas was trying to make.

You know you didn't have to go post that, right?
But it's fine, I guess...

You just keep being you!

One thing that I noticed - and maybe I just don't watch enough quality shows so it may be more common than I thought - is how the characters address each other. Doctor Thaddeus Venture is known/referred to as "Rusty", "Rust", "Doc" and "Venture", in a fashion roughly ranging from 'Previous Carer', 'Old friend', 'Colleague' and 'Enemy' - Members of Team Venture largely refer to him as 'Rusty', his old college friends refer to him as 'Rust', both Hatred/Vatred and Brock call him 'Doc' and people who dislike him often just use 'Venture'. Doctor Morpheus rarely deviates from 'Doctor Venture', although I think he has used 'Rusty' when not in his presence.

Anyway, what I'm getting at, is that Future Rusty addressed the Monarch as 'Malcolm', implying a possible consolidation between the two, and I wonder - should the series continue - how the Monarch will refer to Rusty upon getting to know his brother better. Will he continue with 'Venture', or will the change in relationship be signified with him refering to him by a different moniker?

I think Orpheus was going with Mister Venture at one point. Killinger corrected him, but I don't think it showed up just in "The Doctor Is Sin."

Exploration is ill-advised.
Don't forget at least two people calling him 'Dad'. Though I imagine in the super-science/magical/superhero community, getting pedantic over whether someone actually has a doctorate is considered gauche.

I dunno why but I have a love for that oft abused Bot. I heart you H.E.L.P.E.R. and could listen to you quote poets all day.

Back in the day I had a friend come over with his new girlfriend when that episode came on. She walked in at that exact moment of your screenshot and was like "the gently caress" and quickly exited. Afterwards she told my friend I watched weird porn. I never corrected her as somehow it was more amusing that somewhere out there is someone who probably now types on r/relationships "You think your porn is weird? I knew this guy back in school who watched porn where boobs had faces that told you to murder."

He calls him "Tad" instead of Thaddeus when undercover as a beaver inspector to annoy him. I could see him sticking with that as a nice balance of "technically correct" and "aggravating."

I love that he's so into villainy that he doesn't even have street clothes. The most inconspicuous outfit he could muster, the only thing that didn't have actual Monarch branding on it, was a Beaver Inspector shirt he'd had in the back of his closet for years.

It only makes sense in context and the delivery is important, but one line I like replaying in my head at the appropriate time is, well, just two words.

"What now??"

The perfect line read, and a distillation of that character's entire life on the show.

Also,

"This is getting stupid!"

Even though Monarch can’t seem to do literally anything without putting on a costume, I like that the show portrays him and Dr. Girlfriend as having a healthy physical relationship. A different show probably would have made the costumes the joke, but on VB the joke is more of the “Drogo, not Drago” variety.

Overall the show has a great deal of sympathy for its characters even at their most pathetic.

I'd say that's not promising, but Aqua Teen and Metalocalypse were previously shitcanned, so this is probably good, if it's to gauge interest in future seasons for all three?

It means there's going to be a 2 hour venture bros movie. (I am speculating on runtime just assuming doc and jackson are told 90 minutes and they make a two hour movie instead)

I've been involved in a number of cults, both as a leader and a follower.

You have more fun as a follower. But you make more money as a leader.

quote:

Fans of these shows will know that neither the creators of The Venture Bros. or Metalocalypse (Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer on the one hand, Brendan Small and Tommy Blacha on the other) were exactly overjoyed with how their shows ended their tenures on Adult Swim. Small launched a social media campaign to try to save his show back in 2015, collecting nearly 100,000 signatures calling for a follow-up to 2013's The Doomstar Requiem—but Adult Swim didn’t bite. Publick, meanwhile, announced the cancellation of The Venture Bros. last year by noting that the news came down just as he and Hammer were writing its 8th season, which would presumably have addressed many of the big mysteries lobbed at its audience in the conclusion of its 7th.

But enough about the dark days: New content is a-comin’! Adult Swim and parent company Warner Media didn’t announce release dates for any of the movies, but did confirm the roll-out structure: Each film will debut on home video and video-on-demand for 90 days, then make their way over to HBO Max and Adult Swim. We’ve also got loose plot synopses for each project, which you can read below:

Metalocalypse

The power-hungry TRIBUNAL unveils their secret and deadly “Falconback Project” as the world grows in embattled chaos and the menacing Doomstar breaches the Earth’s atmosphere while the mysterious and twisted dissent of a band member threatens the future of Dethklok. Picking up directly after the heroic rescue of Toki Wartooth: Can Dethklok choose between their egos and the greater good of the world to embark on a gauntlet of dangers that will try their very souls and finally write the song that will be their salvation? The new movie is created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha. The movie soundtrack will be released on WaterTower Music.

The Venture Bros.

Doc’s latest invention will either bankrupt the Ventures or launch them to new heights, as Hank searches for himself, Dean searches for Hank, The Monarch searches for answers, and a mysterious woman from their pasts threatens to bring their entire world crashing down on them. The Venture Bros. is created, written and executive produced by Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force

A continuation of the hit animated series, fans will find out what happens next with Frylock, Meatwad and Master Shake, who consider themselves crime fighters, but the truth is they never fight crime. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is created by Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis and follows the strange everyday lives of three human-sized food products living in New Jersey.

90 minutes is about 4 episodes worth of content, so that's not terrible, about a half season. I just hope it opens the door for more down the line.

I just love how for Venture Brothers and for Metalocalypse, the synopsis is, "There's a great big new adventure that's going to answer a bunch of question then it's going to be epic and awesome!" And for Aqua Teen Hunger Force, we get, "There will be more episodes of this show."

But that's the way it should be, given Aqua Teen Hunger Force's disdain for continuity.
