I really doubt Watson has the pockets to settle with all of em AND pay his legal fees. Just seems like the number for such a thing would be way too high.

IANAL but don't settlements usually have no admission of wrong doing and a gag order on the people paid? If that's the case then the NFL won't have to say anything as the matter was settled without an admission if guilt.

Usually they do, but in the meantime supposedly the NFL is doing it's own investigation and interviewing these women *before* any kind of settlement has been reached. Goodell has never needed much evidence to throw the book at a player when it suits him - which isn't very often. However the seriousness of these charges may lead the NFL to tread extremely lightly around this. I'm sure they'd rather this whole thing disappeared.

If he settles I imagine NFL still finds reason to suspend him for a year; Texans quietly release him before he ever takes the field again, and he maybe spends another year or two in free agency before a team finally signs him and hope nobody gets too mad.

Mr. Nice! posted:Hadn't the NFL seen the elevator tape before it was made public but was still only giving Ray Rice a slap on the wrist? The NFL and Goodell's story that they've repeatedly stuck to is that they only saw the exterior tape - of Rice dragging his unconscious fiancé out of the elevator - at the time of his initial two game suspension. They said they tried to get the tape from inside the elevator and could not. quote:"We had not seen any videotape of what occurred in the elevator,” Goodell told CBS's Norah O'Donnell. “We assumed that there was a video. We asked for anything that's pertinent. But we were never granted that opportunity. It's not a very good story.

Yeah, then it came out that the hotel security had mailed the tape of the entire encounter to the NFL, but they had mysteriously misplaced it. A little whoopsie.

# ? May 12, 2021 15:39 |

Also the Ravens knew the video existed and that Rice and his lawyer had a copy but they did not ask for it. Both the NFL and Ravens very much wished for it to go away.

Yes.quote:On Jan. 8, 2015, Mueller released a report saying that his investigation "found no proof anyone at the league office received or viewed a video of Rice punching out his then-fiancée at an Atlantic City Casino until the footage became public."

NFL Investigators have spoken with 4 of the plaintiffs, for what it's worth. Hardin claims Buzbee has approached him multiple times, but they pretty much refuse to talk about a settlement. I don't know much about law, but I feel like Buzbee and Hardin are among the worst and are in an amazing slapfight.

Buzbee claims that more of his clients want to cooperate with the NFL but they are concerned that the NFL is not treating this seriously which when looking at what happened to Ray Rice is pretty easy to believe.
