It only there were some existing technology for visually encoding a URL, which could be scanned in by a pocket computer everybody carries. Then we could put all that poo poo on web pages: ads, zoo information, clues for scavenger hunts, whatever. And you could make them billboard sized!

Maybe if Ford decides to move ahead with developing this, such a dream can become reality!

E: then I could encode the URL to my page with the inline JPEG that takes advantage of a buffer overflow in Ford's unpatched library, and drop an agent on the entertainment computer that sends a message to the CAN bus to slam on the brakes! Fun for everyone!

No QR code because that would have been irresponsible.

Just curious, would you say that advertising a mobile game on a billboard worked? Are there even decent metrics to track such a thing?

Nearly impossible. All we could look at was any increase in installs. We might have done a special URL but once again the safety issue.

Anyway with the latest Apple vs FB war, we’re all in that situation again.

We also did ads in the airport.

Does anyone know the magic password necessary to test drive a Mach-E? I realize I’m in Ohio and this prime “Mustangs without a V8 should be burned with their owners inside” territory, but I would have assumed that capitalism would override some of that and dealers might be willing to entertain the thought of someone paying them $60,000 for an automobile. As it stands, I’ve gotten one “we don’t have any” (despite a premium AWD standard range sitting outside the entrance to their building), one “we only use those for the service department’s courtesy shuttles, you can’t test drive it,” and one complete lack of response.

Honestly it probably wouldn’t end up being my choice, because even though some YouTube types have implied that it’s better-built and possibly even a better SUV overall than the Model Y, the non-Tesla charging infrastructure out here combined with a bad fast charging curve on the Ford would probably conspire to make it an inferior experience as my first EV purchase. I don’t road trip much, but ABRP shows some of the places I go as only having L2 chargers for part of the route, which seems like a bad time for everyone.

I’ve really only been considering EVs seriously for a few months, but is my assumption generally correct that Tesla is still the only viable option for road trips in much of the flyover part of the country? I’m not opposed to Tesla by any means (punchable CEO aside) and I really liked driving the Y, but I wonder if I’m missing something.

Back in February and March when I was looking at the Mach-E in the Chicago suburbs, I just had to do a lot of calling. I got really lucky in that the day I had scheduled a test drive of a Tesla Model Y and a Mach-E, the first dealership canceled the test drive on me, but a random call to another dealership got me a test drive. But my wife wasn’t around that day, so when I finally decided I wanted to buy one, I had to find one on a day where she was available to take it for a test drive before signing any paperwork.

The day before I just started calling dealerships in a widening circle from where I lived that had the options and colors I wanted. I eventually got lucky on like the 8th call, about 40 miles away. The saving grace was I wanted the Premium AWD with the extended range, which was what was showing up to the dealerships first. The downside is that I wanted a not boring color, the red or blue, and that was harder.

Supposedly, keep an eye on the inventory tracker on Fords website. That is only supposed to list vehicles that are actually available for sale. So no preorders, and no courtesy transports. I then also checked the actual dealer website to see if they had real pictures of the vehicle on their website, that was an indication that the vehicle might actually be there, and not “in-transit”. The aggregator sites like autotrader or cars.com just scrape dealer websites, and if a dealer has a car ordered, or on their lot, it usually ends up on their internet inventory.

You can make biodegradable plastics out of vegetable oils.

Planned obsolescence has been replaced by planned decomposition. An added bonus is the cars don’t last long enough for the poors to ever afford them.

The real question is if they sold the BTC they bought before this, and will they be buying more shortly due to the price drop associated with this news? I'm assuming the answer will be yes to both and that they'll get away with it.

Every single bitcoin transaction requires 1100 kWh of electricity to complete. Enough to power the average household for 45 days, or to drive the average Tesla vehicle almost 4000 miles. Which wouldn't be a problem other than just how wasteful it is, except it is highly likely most bitcoin mining is powered by burning coal in China and is horribly polluting which is exactly the thing that Tesla is trying to stop.

Bitcoin has been lovely for the environment since it’s inception but he’s just now decided it’s bad, but only after buying a bunch and pumping the price. And also very recently pumping Dogecoin which is another proof-of-work coin with the same basic issue as Bitcoin which is that you earn money by wasting energy.

I don’t think he actually gives a poo poo about the environment.

Pacific blue was my runner up color, but they didn't have it in the LT trim. God, the pearlescence of that blue is one of the nicest color fades I've ever seen in factory paint. I went between red and grey for my model 3, but I think I'm a Red Car Person now.

To move away from autopilot assholes chat, Hyundai has published their prices for the Ioniq5 in Italy. Prices start from 45k€ (58 kWh RWD with base trim) up to 60k€ (72.6 kWh AWD) without discounts or local incentives. Single accessory pack choice (Re-Charge) for V2L and solar panel roof at 2k€, five colors option (stock is a weird olive drab, other colors are 750€ extras). No option for the e-mirrors :argh:, the e-tron does sells here with those bullshit display in the doors option so there shouldn't be any legal issue.

Cars should be available in dealers in a couple of weeks, if nobody else's manages to get a review I'll try securing a test drive and post impressions.
