They appear to have adequate ventilation so my only concerns would be a lack of shielding in the event that something that might reflect the laser is being lasered and fire suppression. That said, those are pretty remote possibilities. Lasers are pretty safe unless they're going into eyeballs or starting a fire.

Yeah, if I absolutely had to do that without shielding, I'd at least be wearing some gloves (you don't need much; it's just engraving) and safety glasses that block the wavelength of the laser.

Yeah, you’re right, it’s a much better idea to keep the whole thing up and running and let the ransomware propagate on to other connected systems, potentially including control systems for the pipeline. And there’s no chance at all that an attacker gaining access to the corporate IT systems could manage to get access to data which could enable more serious attacks on the pipeline systems. Also, it’s readily apparent that the people who are attacking you just want money, and don’t have anything more nefarious in mind.

A source who works for a large midstream oil company that feeds fuel into Colonial’s pipeline told Zero Day that the control systems for his company’s tank farms connect directly to control systems at Colonial Pipeline and that as soon as they learned about the ransomware incident on Saturday, they disconnected those systems to prevent the ransomware from traveling to their systems from Colonial’s networks.

What a bunch of idiots.

If you find malware on your PC, would the first thing you do be to log onto your bank account?

Is being in the same room as these lasers bad?

From what I can see, it's no more dangerous than a band saw. Keep the hands out of the block when you hit the shutter button. Operator has no jewelry (shiny, angled object bad for rogue beams). We can't see their eye protection but no way I'd do any open beam work without them. I'm bad at guessing stuff like this but I'd go with a Nd:YAG. Shame it doesn't have sound, a q-switch click could help give it away.

Fun thing about those lasers is the wavelength is perfect for wrecking your eye. It's in the IR so you don't get the iris reflex and your retina just fries. Also great for frying hair, tattoos, glaucoma, etc.

Got sucked into looking at military flights all over the globe for a solid 2 hours.
It's all just so terribly interesting.

Spotted USAF recon/escort flights over/into Israel, "military" designated Saudi private jets (lol), a couple of helicopters likely belonging to oligarchs around Chechnya...

It started raining during the race. Generally racing tires are designed to be grippy as gently caress. So they are a smooth surface, lacking the grooves that would direct water away. On a dry surface this means you can corner much more aggressively with them. But on wet surfaces the lack of grooves means the water isn't being directed away. So racing slicks tend to hydroplane a lot on a wet surface. From my experience what happened would go something like this. They attempt to turn and brake. Neither action does poo poo. The word gently caress goes through their brain, and then there is sudden deceleration. Depending on how sudden, you may find yourself in one of those moments where your brain reboots.

One of my favorite Top Gear interviews was when they had a racing driver on and showed a picture of him about 20 feet in the air flipping end over end. He said something like "I guarantee you my brake lights are still on at that point, because that's all your brain can do."
