Doomykins posted:Dharma is so drunk he tips a polite stranger for waking him before the train hits the last stop. Not quite. The specific phrasing the guy uses tricks Dharma into thinking that he's actually in a taxi. But it's super subtle and not really translatable in English. Or even Korean, necessarily, which is why the cop doesn't understand Dharma's complaint and is probably interpreting it the same way you are. Cheer Up Boss Dharma In other translation notes, here Taku is saying that his problem is a common one for people his age, literally young people, but what we would call Millennials. I never use that word because it's too long, and also because using it would imply Koreans commonly use our generally dumb system of pigeonholing certain generations via buzzwords. Also in the original Korean, Dashum explicitly promises to give Taku the bread back if he pays up, but due to space constraints I had to leave that as just implied in English. I think this particular comic is mostly improved in translation, since the original Korean more explicitly has Dashum making reference to bread, suggesting he actually cares about Taku's dietary situation, whereas removing the word bread from his dialog due to space constraints better supports the reading that he's just been hassling Taku for the cab fare this whole time.

What I'm reading in this one is "Bernice nervously spouts a bunch of pretentious buzzwords to sound like art people, and the actual artist calls her out on it." That's a decent gag. What the Evans almost certainly wrote was "Bernice spouts a bunch of pretentious buzzwords like art people do, and we're calling you out, art people!"

Deathless Deer 3/15-17/43 It took you days to find a way out of the city? You suck at rescuing, Horus. I admit it, I love The Ape. I love the plaid suit, the goofy little string tie, the diamond stud in his shirtfront. It's just an amazing character design.

Olive Brinker will be taking some time off to care for herself: https://twitter.com/olivebrinker/status/1394232265610309632 In another tweet, she says there's no need to worry and she's going into therapy. Considering the last few Rae the Doe strips, I completely understand. There's the point where the depression just takes hold too much and you have to beat it back the healthiest way possible. I'm glad she's moving forward and hope it gets better. Howard Beale fucked around with this message at 13:13 on May 18, 2021 |

Vintage Valiant (Apr. 15, 1945) This would be a really great scene if the guy weren't black. As it is it just kind of makes me uncomfortable, although panel three still rules. The Medieval Castle (Apr. 15, 1945)
