i know lots of eu citizens who live in the uk who have been trying to get their brexit paperwork in order for over a year and a half now and the gov never sends the forms/responds to their filed forms, meanwhile somehow managing to send increasingly threatening mail about "you need to file this form or were going to kick you out and/or imprison you"

even in my own time there as an american there are a ridiculous number of systems where you jump through 20 hoops for ministry a to issue you number b, then immediately receive an urgent request from ministry a requiring you to file forms to report what your b number is on peril of losing your visa. fucks you created the b number. you are the keeper of b numbers. you tell me

its weird because all the forms/processes they have online are really well done and way better than any other government ive dealt with. they just selectively seem to choose some stuff to not do online to make things as difficult as possible for certain segments

Anyone working vacine centers or 119 that could give any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. My partner had a reaction to AZ so they refused the 2nd shot. Went to go and sorted the stuff with the allergy specialist so has a letter and filled out flowchart saying she needs Pfizer.
And is now in a situation of being brickwalled by 119 saying they will only book her AZ and giving her an appointment at boots who only has AZ the NHS online booking site does not have the local big center listed where they can do Pfizer. And her gp claims there is not a way for them to get her an appointment booked. Thanks.

This might not help at all, but, I had my first pfizer recently and was having trouble booking my second due to some funkiness with the online stuff. When I was getting jabbed the nurse I saw told me that if I had any problems I could "just turn up" in about 12 weeks time and they'd sort it out. So, if it's not a huge hassle maybe just go down to the vaccination centre with the letter from the specialist?

eh, it's her health, it's entirely reasonable to challenge a little more than it is for getting the wrong coffee at starbucks. i used to work for an NHS telephone service, sometimes "can i speak to your manager" was kind of a release valve if someone was repeatedly asking me something i was unable to do.

Everyone is in a tricky position though

The left doesn't appear to be strong enough to mount an effective challenge and has basically no talent ready to take over

The right equally have no talent waiting, they are strong enough to make a challenge but know it could go wrong for them easily so have no real incentive to do so

The centre, your Burnham types, are probably willing but if they win they get to be attacked by the press leading a dying party. They also don't really have the support of either of the other two wings

they're terrified of another leadership election too, even though he'd probably walk it given how many members have now left. the greedy ones think they can get an even worse shithead on there though. no comment on the minds behind that particular train of thought lol

I think that is why the labour right are doubling down on purging the left. They know starmers days are numbered but they also know they will likely lose a leadership challenge if they take it now.

So imo the idea is to purge and diminish the party to the extent that when the time comes to replace starmer they don't just get corbyn'd again

Any centre leader who is at least willing to listen to the left is a massive danger to the right because the membership will fall over themselves to vote for someone left leaning who promises unity - that's how Starmer got elected in the first place

Problem is too many Labour members are on the left but just terminally naive and don't realise that you have to wage factional war against the right or they will backstab you at the first opportunity. Which I understand, it's exhausting, but still hard to get anywhere

eh this is the narrative we told ourselves, over and over. factional war didn't hurt boris when it mattered. i know they have infinite more advantages contrasted with any labour leader but it's still true.

factional war can be recovered from really quickly under a suitably inspiring and effective leader, if you can ever successfully dig one up. it's not like an actual civil war where you burn the country and kill half the population. but the philosophy of "we have to sit in the doldrums and lick our wounds and listen to the country so that in three or four election cycles we might be able to present a challenge again" is as bad or worse than "purge purge purge!". Sir Keir intends on making the party smaller and he's going to take a long time doing it. a long, miserable bleed-out that's even worse than factionalism because at least the factions were fighting for something.
