Here's a clip from Ashton Kutcher in 2016 where he makes the most condescending speech ever to a protester

Ashton Kutcher being a right wing shithead and Danny Masterson being a serial rapist, makes me wonder what other skeletons in the closet the That 70s Show cast has.

I hear Muslims say it too, but it's not even really true. No one actually gives much of a poo poo about Medina, but Jerusalem looms large in Muslim poetry and art. It's easily second and is nipping at Meccas heels during certain time periods.

To my recollection Palestinians have never thrown people off roofs as a way to carry out a death sentence, that's a purely ISIS thing. And not to excuse homophobia or repression against it, but being gay isn't a death penalty offense in Gaza, it's a criminal offense punishable with prison sentences.

From Amnesty:

quote:

lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people
The civil society organization alQaws for Sexual and Gender Diversity in Palestinian Society reported that LGBTI people continued to be denied the freedom to exercise their rights, even though consensual same-sex relationships are not criminalized in the West Bank. Meanwhile, Section 152 of the Penal Code applicable in Gaza criminalizes consensual same-sex sexual activity and makes it punishable by up to 10 years’ imprisonment.

That photo is from Syria and an ISIS execution of a 15 year old boy that was raped by an IS commander in 2016.

Hamas did in fact throw people off of roofs but that was Fatah officials, and it's because they had to do a coup when Fatah & Israel ignored the results of the 2006 elections.

Nah man, the Masjid Al Nabwi is definitely number 2, don't know about the poetry though. Medina was the real centre of Islam during the the post Hijra period as well as most of the post rashidun period.

Edit; Many Urdu and Punjabi naats reference Medina but I don't remember any that reference Jerusalem. Might be a South Asian thing though.

Also much of the way that it's like that anyway is because Israel and to a greater extent the US execute leftist groups in the Middle East and either leave alone or aid religious extremists because Westerners empathize less with religious fundamentalists than leftist groups.

No, it's because religious extremists are more willing to do business and are the most effective counter-revolutionary force in the region. It's the same reason we repress the Muslim Brotherhood. Even a conservative republic under moderate Islamist direction is too revolutionary for western interests.

i for one was both sides when i was a very young adult because the only source back then was main stream news. as in the internet back then was dogshit with poo poo like geocities and whatever that site was before facebook exploded in popularity and made it irrelevant. it took a friend in university educating me on the viewpoint of palestinians and how they are oppressed and how they have practically nothing for me to realize israel is in fact really bad

Ahmed Shihab-Eldin, a Palestinian journalist who has worked for HuffPost, Vice, and Al Jazeera, said one memory of his coverage haunts him especially. In 2015, he was filming a documentary for Vice. He came upon a group of settlers destroying a Palestinian family’s home in the Silwan neighborhood in East Jerusalem. He said a group of homes had been slated for eviction nearby, but not this home. After a mother who lived there came home with her young daughter, he watched as the settlers threw the young girl’s toys out of the house, removing pipes, and destroying furniture. “And we’re filming, and all of a sudden, there’s a torrential downpour, and they’re locked out of their home,” he told me. “Literally if we had done all the planning with millions of dollars to try and capture the scene that unfolded in front of us that we captured by chance, we wouldn’t have been able to do it.”

Shihab-Eldin said the scene was cut from the documentary by Vice. “They had completely removed that scene and added all this archival footage. Like 30 percent of the film became archival. Not only did they censor the doc, but they took out the heart of what we had captured,” he said. “They sent me a script, and it was super different than what I had written.”

“‘Dude, the settlements are crazy controversial,’” Shihab-Eldin said he was told. “‘Some see them as illegal. Israel doesn’t. So we can’t show the confrontation because it will make it show too much of one side’s argument.’”

I guess people shouldn't feel too bad how they use things like anime or video games to vent their stress.

For criminals in the IDF it just means dropping a 500 pound JDAM on a apartment complex.

Not knowing much about the conflict, the media definitely tries to lead you into either "Israel is right" or "both sides are equally culpable". I remember as a kid reading an Encyclopedia Brown mystery where a bank robber's itinerary includes Moscow, Paris, and Palestine, and the solution involves knowing that "Palestine no longer exists."

yeah, the "both sides are guilty" framing is a favorite among liberals because it allows them to softball critiques over israel's apartheid policies and ethnic cleansing attempts and feel good about it without actually having to take a stand over anything, since the solution they necessarily have to broadcast isn't, "israel stops attempting to destroy the palestinian state and peoples," but rather, "they just have to learn to get along :)"

it's ultimately serving the same rhetorical purpose of attempting to excise class conflict from the narrative in an attempt to make it seem like an abstract conflict of beliefs between two religious extremes instead of what it actually is (a material conflict of one significantly more powerful, internationally-backed state attempting to annex and depopulate the land of another nation)
