God, Rollin Hand was so loving cool  The original Mission: Impossible was such a great show. Until I actually sat down and watched the full series a few years back I had no idea Jim Phelps wasn't the original team leader.

Returnal is the most soul crushing game i’ve played. I have no idea why I am continuing. Spending hours on a run getting completely maxed out weapons and health, with two extra lives saved up only to be killed in under a minute by a flock of magnetite pokemon is just depressing as hell. I have been playing since release and I hate it but can’t stop.

The best advice to give is "if it glows, shoot at it, not like there's innocents on this planet; collect as much resin as possible to raise your health bar ASAP, and never stop doing that; pick the weapon you're best at and pretty much toss aside every other weapon; figure out which perks on that weapon also help you, and then toss aside anything that doesn't either increase that perk or have a huge jump in how much damage it can deliver; fell in a trap room and know for a fact that the Cthulu-rear end thing is going to kill you in like five seconds? Run like hell to the transporter, they activate immediately. Also open every goddamn gate you see." Also, the game's a bit more rewarding to people who play it like a Platinum game, since the dodge has a bunch of frames where you're invincible, much like those games tend to. Like, you can dodge through a shockwave or bullet hell if you're good enough. In fact, that might be the best advice: master the dodge mechanic and make the game your completely consensual bitch.

I have had more successful runs with Returnal by making sure to be mindful of farming health pick-ups for increased Max health and also just not loving with the dead scouts or challenge rooms unless I was extremely set-up. Also don’t pick up treasures until your proficiency is at a higherish level. But idk, you are probably further along than me, I’ve played for ten hours or so and only been to the second level. Beating Phrike took some time.

If the Returnal run is taking an hour or two then you're spending too much time backtracking and trying to find everything. You don't need it and the time spent backtracking could be used to practice the section you're stuck on.

Some good stuff here thanks. I definitely should master the dodge mechanic better. If I can beat all the soulsborniros i can beat this. Any specific tips for the Magnetite enemies in world three? Their projectiles are so loving fast and their self destruct attack is just brutal, I can wipe the floor with every other enemy in the game even the huge brick with tentacles that flies in the desert world.

They're the worst enemy in the game so don't feel bad. Dodge forward through the homing attacks. Try to constantly move, if you are grappling I think you're immune so try to use those to get around. If you can run don't be afraid to run. You don't have to clear every room.

Strong endorsement for Enter the Gungeon while we're talking about roguelikes, I've played it across three systems now and am enjoying it even more on PS4 than I did on Switch or PC Risk of Rain 2 is also really good, but it's waaaaaay more inscrutable and doesn't have the same sense of humor

Movies that could be $5 drug store paperbacks are my favorite so I watched Army of the Dead and Equalizer 2 this week. Now I’ll rewatch Inside Man and Hotel Artemis for good Denzel and Batista movies. Goofing in the case of Hotel Artemis I guess.
