I stopped after a few seasons but I remember following up on the wikipedia summary years later and, in short: have you ever thought of an awesome setup to a story that will make everyone say "wow, I want to see where this goes!!" and then been completely at a loss for how to continue/finish it? Well now imagine that you were a big fancy director who decided "well, it doesn't matter, what's important is that people will watch it anyway and I still get my paycheque" That's Lost

There's not much more to it, other than Lost had a reputation for offering up dozens of tantalizing mysteries and plot threads which ultimately went unanswered or were handwaved away in an unsatisfying conclusion.

LOST is great and answers a ton of questions and most actual fans of the show think it concluded brilliantly and JJ had little to do with the show other than producing it after the first season and it’s wild that it’s still a lazy internet joke! YES this IS one of my sore subjects, how can you tell? Reading a Wikipedia page that sums up a hundred episodes of character and plot will really not give you a good idea what the show is like!!!

I watched the whole show and absolutely loved the first four seasons but by s5 and 6 I was 100% watching the show just to laugh at it. The drop in quality was astounding.

You don't really need a plan. If you make 3 good things that sorta go together people will just assume you had all that figured out with some big whiteboard covered in postits and string even if you didn't. Just look at the original Star Wars trilogy. The real problem with the Star Wars sequels is they followed up a fine first one and interesting second one with a third one that was just a massive pile of rear end.
