My wife was amazed the last couple of times we went to Disney World and they way Disney went on about how with their special armbands, you could just ~taaaaap~ to pay for transactions. Is... is tapping your debit or credit card not a thing that was (or is, maybe) common 2-3 years ago? Why isn't he just inserting his card and punching in his pin? When do you actually have to swipe your card in this day and age?

Also Tinsley is likely a drunk shutin who orders everything online so he likely hasn’t used a card reader in years.

If the bacon you get spits that badly you would put it in the oven and cover it with tinfoil, that way the mess gets contained and you get perfectly flat bacon. This also works for that fake plant based bacon.

The US adopted chip and pin almost a decade after the rest of the world, to the point where non-bank forms of NFC payment got to market first - I think Apple Pay would have had a much harder time getting established if it weren't for that. I've seen a bunch of theories and partial explanations for why it took so long but never any single obvious "this is why" reason.

Pants Donkey posted:It took forever to get my debit card upgraded to the chip, and that thing was a piece of poo poo that got too degraded to read in a matter of months. People are still impressed when I use my watch to pay, which I guess makes sense given not every can afford a $200+ smart watch, and while phones have had NFC for like a decade it’s rarely used since you’re still digging through your pockets so habit will go for the wallet. In other countries people use this tech; chips have been the standard (including newer ones with PINs) for some time. The issue in the USA is that it doesn't benefit stores to use the new tech. The only reason we got chips is because there was a bill passed that made point-of-sale responsible for fraudulent transactions (e.g. stolen cards) or stolen CC#'s instead of banks if the POS didn't upgrade to the chip standard.

Victoria has been pushing for the federal government to move away from hotel quarantine as it isn't fit to stop aerosol transmission. Rall: Freaking out about Trump, Letting Bush off the HookTed Rall posted:Democrats are still completely wound up over the fact that Donald Trump falsely claims that he lost the 2020 presidential election, and the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot. Yet Democrats quickly forgot about something far worse than lying about losing and a failed coup: the 2000 presidential election actually was stolen, in part due to a violent coup, and as a result more than 1 million people in Iraq and Afghanistan died. Democrats forgot so thoroughly that they now treat Bush like an elder statesman to be respected rather than thrown into prison for the rest of his life as he deserves.

It was more than 20 years ago, Rall. There are people old enough to vote that weren't even alive at the time. And you know, around a year or so later, some things happened that thoroughly distracted people for awhile. Plus Trump's stupid poo poo about the election is ongoing. Of loving course people care more about the latter in 2021.

Take 1: Timely commentary there, Rall, but could you maybe work in a hip fresh Memento or Blair Witch Project reference? Take 2: So I guess you just weren't on Twitter during Bush Sr's funeral? Because people dragged Michelle Obama for taking that candy. Take 3: You are old now. The most important moments of your youth are history, distant and fossilized. There is no shame in this - in 2040 I will still be mad at Trump, and people will probably be naming airports after him.

I'm gonna say the Rall is a good concept, but he didn't want to do any of the leg work.
