It took forever to get my debit card upgraded to the chip, and that thing was a piece of poo poo that got too degraded to read in a matter of months. People are still impressed when I use my watch to pay, which I guess makes sense given not every can afford a $200+ smart watch, and while phones have had NFC for like a decade it’s rarely used since you’re still digging through your pockets so habit will go for the wallet.

I guess what I’m saying is that this technology hasn’t reach mainstream penetration quite yet. Also Tinsley is likely a drunk shutin who orders everything online so he likely hasn’t used a card reader in years.

Don't cook a lot of bacon for obvious reasons - any reason you wouldn't just use a lid?

Smoosh
If the bacon you get spits that badly you would put it in the oven and cover it with tinfoil, that way the mess gets contained and you get perfectly flat bacon.

This also works for that fake plant based bacon.

I don't cook a lot of bacon either, but I have cooked burgers and other stuff on the stove before and you have to take the lid off to flipp them or stir whatever you're making so it doesn't burn and that's when the grease gets ya.

The US adopted chip and pin almost a decade after the rest of the world, to the point where non-bank forms of NFC payment got to market first - I think Apple Pay would have had a much harder time getting established if it weren't for that. I've seen a bunch of theories and partial explanations for why it took so long but never any single obvious "this is why" reason.

Ben Garrison posted:

DEMOCRATS NEVER HAD THE MORAL HIGH GROUND IN THE FIRST PLACE

The Socialist Democrats have become the party of medical tyranny.

Their goal has always been bigger government and more authoritarianism and the masks and vaccinations help further that goal. It’s no wonder some on the left say they will continue to wear the slave masks just to differentiate themselves from conservatives. That’s their virtue signaling prerogative, but it’s good to see less people sporting the face diapers and more people wanting to maintain their freedom of choice.

That goes for taking dangerous inoculations, too. The authoritarian state desperately wants us all to take the shots. They’re even offering money bribes now. Why? The cases of COVID-19 are collapsing. The mortality rate was always very low. There was no pandemic. There is no need to turn Americans into lab rats with dangerous, under-tested, and experimental vaccines. Thousands have died from the poisoned needles and many more have experienced severe side effects.

Many Republicans pushed for vaccinations as well—including Rand Paul. However, he’s now refusing the shots and that’s good to hear. He had the virus and claims natural immunity, but the pro-vaccine hysteria is strong among the left and Paul actually received death threats for refusing the jabs.

Fauci, Gates, the Democrats, and social media such as Facebook have lost the moral high ground. They never did possess it in the first place, but that was the perception corporate media kept shoveling at us.

Fauci is now a proven liar. He lied to Congress. He’s a disingenuous flip-flopper and glory seeker.

Bill Gates was friends with Jeffrey Epstein AFTER the latter was convicted as a pedophile. Gates claims it’s because he thought Epstein had the string-pulling means to bring him the Nobel Peace Prize. Sure, Bill. We know what you were really after.

Facebook has behaved in a disgusting, anti-free speech manner. Apparently Zuckerberg wants to emulate communist China and his best buddy, President Xi. Both want the speech of citizens carefully controlled. Facebook would not allow anyone to drift from the ‘official’ virus narrative and if someone questioned whether or not that virus came from China’s bioweapons lab in Wuhan, then they were smeared as a conspiracy nut and banned. The traitorous Zuckerberg has Xi’s back.

My cartoons have been banned many times on Facebook and we are currently banned for 7 days simply for expressing weariness with masks and vaccines.

The pro-mask, pro-vaccine crowd is rapidly descending toward the immoral low ground.

I have some good friends who recently bought a country house in France. Then they purchased a cozy 11-room hotel in the same village.

Now, lest you assume I hang out with multi-millionaires, let me note what they paid for that French real estate: for the house, just over $67,000; for the hotel, just over $51,000. There are no missing zeroes there. I’m talking sixty-seven thousand and fifty-one thousand.

In comparison, I know a young couple who just paid $1.3 million for a nice but modest house in northeast Seattle. Maybe they should have moved to France.

Housing prices in the Seattle metro area are up more than 18% over last year, the third biggest increase in the country. And that is a percentage based on prices that were already in the stratosphere. Our town has been among the most expensive places to buy a home for several years now, right up there with San Francisco, New York City and Washington, D.C.

Seattle has a booming tech economy, lots of good paying jobs, a young population, excellent universities, and is surrounded by two marvelous mountain ranges and the beauty of Lake Washington and Puget Sound. It is no wonder people want to live here and are willing to pay a big price for a home. But isn’t there a limit to how much people can afford? Will a day come when only millionaires can live in the Emerald City?

If that should come to pass, I know a village in France where you can get a house for the cost of a new car.

In other countries people use this tech; chips have been the standard (including newer ones with PINs) for some time.

The issue in the USA is that it doesn't benefit stores to use the new tech. The only reason we got chips is because there was a bill passed that made point-of-sale responsible for fraudulent transactions (e.g. stolen cards) or stolen CC#'s instead of banks if the POS didn't upgrade to the chip standard.

Rall: Freaking out about Trump, Letting Bush off the Hook

Ted Rall posted:

Democrats are still completely wound up over the fact that Donald Trump falsely claims that he lost the 2020 presidential election, and the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill riot. Yet Democrats quickly forgot about something far worse than lying about losing and a failed coup: the 2000 presidential election actually was stolen, in part due to a violent coup, and as a result more than 1 million people in Iraq and Afghanistan died. Democrats forgot so thoroughly that they now treat Bush like an elder statesman to be respected rather than thrown into prison for the rest of his life as he deserves.
