A thing I think is worth bringing up about XL engines: the way the tabletop rules work is that a mech is considered out of action when it loses three slots worth of engine, which is kind of abstracted away in this iteration of the game. An XL engine weighs half as much, but it has three critical slots sticking into each torso. Which means that if you lose a side torso, you lose the three engine slots that are in it, which means that your mech is out of action. As a result, XL engines are much more fragile.

Clan XL engines only stick two slots into each torso, which means you need to lose both side torsos for it to count as a kill. I assume that MechWarrior 2 followed these rules, but never properly conveyed any of this information, so I thought the sole downside to XL engines was losing two of the twelve slots in each torso. Which didn't really matter because of how much more compact all the Clan equipment was.

Indeed, it's the trade off for XL Engines. All that weight savings, but you also have to be much more careful to avoid losing a torso section because if you do, you're hosed.

It's for this same reason why any 'Mech with good armor, standard engine, and no ammo to explode is often referred to as a Zombie 'Mech. You pretty much have to either core it or take its head clean off to take it out of the fight.

Edit: For a good example, look at Piet's Banshee IIC in Breakout of the OG Battletech Thread. By the time she finally died, 22 turns into the mission, her 'Mech had been reduced to a center and left torso barely held together by baling wire attached to a pair of legs. And she probably could have kept going if an unlucky headshot hadn't taken her 'mechs head off. Bitch was crazy, but god drat did she die hard.

How do the vectored jump jets in the mod pack work wrt multiples? Do all the jump jets need to be vectored? Do the effects stack with multiple jets? With the phawk's special equipment?

The effects stack, that's why the values are so low. They should stack with the Phoenix Hawk's jets in theory, but I haven't tested it because we haven't gotten a Pixie.

Cicadas are highly useful in BTA (and presumably other mods where you can swap engines), because you can yoink the 320 core out of them and put it in a better mech.

I managed to nab a royal phoenix hawk off a black market along with a LPL++ (+10 damage). When jumping with full stacks of vectored jump jets and the +20% energy weapon damage cockpit item, the LPL++ does 102 damage.

You've done it, Five Aces. You faced off against the Taurian war machine and forced it into retreat.
And if they can be driven out of one system, they can be driven from another.
Your actions today have restored hope to the Aurigan people, Five Aces.
Know that. Believe it.
"Commander Johnny Fiveaces, Beacon of Hope." It has a nice ring to it, I've gotta say.
Laugh all you like, Five Aces... to my people, this is serious. You're a hero in their eyes, and they can see you fighting on their behalf.
That means something. And to those in Ostergaard's crosshairs? It means everything.
I hope that you're ready to pay for more of our brand of heroism in the near future, Lady Arano. We didn't destroy the Taurians, we only inconvenienced them.
They attacked Smithon to get to you. There's nothing stopping them from doing it again someplace else.
And we'll be ready when they do. Me on the comms, and you on the battlefield.
As I don’t have to babysit, I’ll get the job done.
Together, we will do whatever we must to defend the Restoration.
Absolutely. But at the end of this road, Espinosa is mine.
My uncle will pay for his crimes, Five Aces... as will my cousin. We'll make sure of it.
Lady Arano, we're receiving an encoded Hyperpulse transmission. Must be a message from Lady Centrella.
Hang on a second, I'll put it on screen.
Make it so.
Kamea. I have news for you, both good and bad.
We'll start with the good: my agents have established contact with a member of House Gallas, the ruling family Of Itrom. They served Espinosa in the early days Of the Directorate, but have since fallen into disfavor.
Not pure enough of blood? Or zealous enough of spirit?
Lady Gallas claims to have information that would prove extremely damaging to your uncle.
The position her family once held in the Directorate's power structure gives her words weight. Her house's downfall gives her motive.
Both to betray the Directorate, and to lie to us.
And now the bad news. Lady Gallas has been taken prisoner by the Directorate's occupation force. They have her locked away in her own castle—a gilded cage for imprisoned royalty.
We can't reach her again without liberating the system. We'd get her killed if we tried.

Well, there you have it, Five Aces. We know where we have to go next. Itrom... right in the heart of the Directorate. To say that their defenses will be formidable is an understatement... and Ostergaard will go on hounding us, every step of the way.
Are you sure that your people are ready for this?
We're headed for a rough stretch of road. I don't think anyone has any illusions that. But we can—and will—handle it.
You're damned right we will, Johnny... and to hell with anyone who stands in our way.
Let's get to it, everyone. Back to your stations. We've got a job to do.

PTN’s note: The global difficulty has gone up again. It will now be rare to find anything lower than 3 skulls. I also wanted to comment because this is our first mission with a minimum weight limit, we can’t field anything lighter than 40 tons.

Really appreciate making the collection of mods you are using available! A quick note is that I think a few trailing commas are missing in the last section of the CUpgradeList_default_vanilla.json file from the BTRandomMechComponentUpgrader mod, causing it to not be loaded.

I just recorded a mission where one of the 'Mechs on the OpForce spawned with an LRM-20++ and an SRM-6++ on an SLDF Highlander :gonk: , so it does seem to be working.

I am doing a little digging to see if I can't tweak the number of pulls the black market makes, and I'll for sure be making an adjustment to make the vectored jets a little less rare. They're supposed to spawn uncommonly on SLDF planets but they haven't been.

VVV Ah, I see them too! The weird thing is, those lines aren't ones I added.

Hmm, I was going off of the cleaned_output_log.txt file in the BATTLETECH/Mods subfolder - it mentioned some parsing errors. After tweaking the file I'm seeing a lot more upgraded equipment (like, most mechs have at least something upgraded), including all the cockpit mods you added.

Mod v1.61 is up. No major adjustments, but the number of items spawned in the Black Market has been increased to account for the equalizers burning up some of the usual weapon spawns; and the component upgrader has been tweaked. It should work more consistently.

Edit: missed a comma, one sec. Fixed. I'm a moron! :haw:

Restoration Campaign Mission 74 - The Gauntlet (Battle)
When I played a similar mission in roguetech, this is the reason why I had to bring AoE weapons because even if you killed *ALL* of the enemies, the mission wouldn't end until the last escort reaches it's destination or dies. I had to use AoE weapons to kill the last one because it got stuck and refused to move.

What did you change to get more items spawned? I'm trying to replicate for a different mod but I couldn't see a change in the equipment equalizers files that seemed like it would do that.

I updated the itemCollection_faction_AuriganPirates itemcollection def to include more items.

Those files basically read: [list of items] [type of file] [number of items] [item weight]

Normally, the Black Market has 12 or 14 guaranteed pulls with a weight of 10, which I boosted to 22 guaranteed pulls to give it a better chance to spawn rarer equalizers like TSM or the jump jets.

As far as I can tell, 'weight' in faction shops is a random number of bonus pulls. If you set weight to 0, it tells the game: 'load every single item on this list'

Weight works a little differently in the actual item lists, higher weights just mean certain items are more likely to spawn (with a '0' meaning the item will always spawn no matter what)
