Speaking of updates, I'm still using the old version of Viva New Vegas as a base and using the new version to see if there are any new mods that replaced some on the old list. How bad of an idea is it to keep doing this especially as mods keep getting updated?

EDIT: Page snipe sorry. YUP got updated: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/51664

With MO2 it's trivially easy to just uninstall everything or create a new profile and follow the guide at it's most recent.

Ah sorry I meant the Living in New Vegas version. https://github.com/VivaNewVegas/Living-in-New-Vegas

I'm just mainly concerned about those premade patches. I think I know how to make the xEdit patches but I don't trust myself that any patch I make fixes all the issues.

Centaurs https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/72026?tab=posts

Mr. Handy https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/71937

Robobrains https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/71548

There's a bunch of other stuff including building designs from the All Roads graphic novel, monsters and robots based on Adam Adamowicz's concept art and a couple of Fallout 4/Fallout 76 creatures. It's all marked as modder's resources but they usually include a few spawns in the base game.

No updated link for that one, but I used this one on a recent play through and it was pretty great.

Looks like the link in the top reddit comment still works, this is where I initially found it when I was looking for it a few years back

I'm getting back into a new New Vegas playthrough. I've used mods before but it's been a few years. Apparently the op is out of date, so I went through the Viva New Vegas steps linked there. Everything works great so far, but the instructions say not to add any other mods lest it break the game. I really want to ignore that bit, so does anyone know of any tips or mods that won't destroy everything? I'm into lore friendly weapons and items mostly, but I'll try anything y'all think is worthwhile.

Adding new weapons and items is simple enough, what you need to look out for though are the leveled lists, which are responsible for distributing items across the game. When you add new items to the game you will likely need to create a merged patch using Wrye Flash NV to avoid conflicts and losing out on your newly added items.

Man I forgot all about Wyre Flash. I'll have to relearn how to use it, thanks.

While this isn’t as good as a merged patch, it can be a good supplement to get any guns that slipped through the cracks or aren’t packaged with leveled lists https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/64149

You would still need to use a merged patch with this as well if you add anything else to modifies the vanilla leveled lists, but this is a good options for getting new weapons in the game, yes.

There's no one I'd rather be than me.

So I'm installing the Viva New Vegas set and I'm on tweaking the ini here https://vivanewvegas.github.io/mo2.html#ini_notes

When it says to paste stuff in, am I just copying the stuff they put and pasting it in or am I finding the INIs written and changing the values to what they have written down.

You’re pasting that stuff in. When you should be changing values, it says to do that.

i've added this cut weapon mods... mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43875?tab=description) to new vegas, and unfortunately it makes the varmint rifle fire .22LR instead of 5.56 for some reason. is there an easy way to change this or do i just not use the mod?

You can open the mod up in xEdit and just delete the overwrites it makes to the varmint rifle.

It's just a multiplas with ridiculous damage. But worth using when stuff is just bullet sponge bonkers that this is the easiest option. Like that time I was playing with A World of Pain mod and Monster Mod both with increased spawn.
