if you slow the video down or watch it a lot you can take a pretty clear note of the weight distribution coming down on those boards, and how much of it is mitigated. the force placed on them and which is broken by the boards (leading to them all breaking as a unit) is such that the bump is painful on the rest of the body but barely more than any other regular bump, while dispersing a lot of the force that would otherwise have been placed on her shoulder area specifically which would have otherwise led to the overly dangerous force on the neck if the boards weren't hit properly or weren't there. the hands don't really do a lot in terms of mitigation but what they do is signify that this wrestler is well aware of what's happening and is completely tightening the neck muscles to keep the head tucked throughout the spot. your neck is extremely strong in a preventative sense if you know you're using it for that purpose, and hands behind the head act more as a secondary brace for something like a chair coming the other way up to the neck unexpectedly, as well as a shield against potential wood splintering. in terms of safety if 10 is a forward shoulder roll and 1 is vic grimes, this spot is a 6.2. anything over 5 is nothing to be upset with without being a hypocrit for enjoying any pro wrestling at all. and i'm not going after anyone in saying that. just trying to educate. finally, i thought of a silly thing to take the edge off this seriousness. how much air is inside of an air mattress? how much air is over top of those boards and chairs, and under it? a lot more. ha ha
