There's no way this isn't turning into a month-long thing at the very least, I reckon. They're downplaying the severity of the viral load in this go-round with how good the contact tracing has been for locating potential infectees (and it has been good, let's be fair), but it can take up to two weeks for people to start presenting symptoms and I'm expecting a whole bunch to pop at once at some point in the coming week. The big problem is that multiple cases have now been tracked to the exposure sites, confirming that this strain is more easily transmitted. The list of exposure sites is going to keep expanding. We, as a population, are not nearly as angry about the repeated clusterfucks as we should be and right now we should be demanding answers about the secret contracts which were awarded to private contractors to deliver onsite vaccination to aged care and disability care facilities. We should be enraged, and we're not.

On the "plus" side it should hopefully put a bullet in companies taking away work from home again, because those existing COVID policies are fuuuucked if even a brief encounter will pass it on.

I may need to drive from Canberra to Adelaide in late June, I'm trying to plot a route that avoids the dreaded infected Victoria. So far I have: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory 2601 to Adelaide, South Australia: 12 HR 35 Min Canberra, Australian Capital Territory 2601 to Buronga, New South Wales to Lake Victoria, Rufus NSW 2648 to Renmark, South Australia 5341 to Adelaide, South Australia: 14 HR 2 Min As long as I stay out of the river and don't accidentally turn into Mildura I should be fine.

I worked for one media outlet and would sign as a dickhead I knew form a rival paper. Even though I had $1 tickets with my super secret expired staff card from AHL.

It's precisely why Victoria locks down everything when we go into lockdown; There's always a bunch who try to skip out on it thinking they'll be fine hunkering down at their holiday home down in Mornington, or out at a holiday location somewhere away from the coast. And take COVID with them.

It's not a good sign though IMO; If they thought this would be just an extended circuit-breaker they'd probably just have people tough it out another week for consistent messaging. Trying to make it more flexible like this means they see this going a while and don't want to upset too many people. The student thing seems like an invitation to another super-spreader too.

Lolie posted:Why is everyone blaming Victoria when this outbreak originated in South Australia? The Hotel quarantine system has a lot to answer for. Ok you quarantine for 14 days, and then you become infected as you're leaving because someone infected breathed in the hallway to collect their food 10min before - which is likely how the Kappa Variant got out. The quarantine system needs to be reworked. Like I'll take the piss out of Victoria all day long, but people's livelihoods are at stake and it's not on.
