It is this perfect blend of Thin Lizzy and Maiden, the songwriting is outstanding. I’m coming off of a winter listening to black metal almost exclusively so it was a weird shift in song content, but I came around.

This album is incredible. Super crisp production - sounds so good! Satan just represents the spirit of metal really well because he’s the ultimate outcast and christianity is the ultimate bully to many people, in my mind. It’s what makes metal such a perfect outlet for people who have been bullied or have trouble finding their voice.

A lot of that stuff is really more related to early Christian Gnosticism and Jewish kabbalah mysticism than anything else, ironically. left-hand path (divinity of the self and self-worship) vs right-hand path (external divinity that one must subjugate themselves to), etc. I mean, it's more complicated than that obviously but yeah, they generally celebrate the fictional Satan as the one that told God to gently caress off and who refused to submit to his authority. I'm sure there's Satanists that worship Satan as an actual deity but they might actually be in the minority.

There's a significant number who actually do that stuff in black metal, most 'Satanists' in black metal nowadays aren't church of satan or temple of set related people(although those currents have been important in some scenes at various times), which was my point.
