The prime directive is like an old forgotten rule on the books nobody even remembers or follows. Like say every Wednesday the switchboard telephonists will dust the cables on level 4 of H block, despite the fact that they were replaced decades ago by a self-volitional AI made of space crystal that took all their jobs. And H block is now a car park, I mean shuttle landing pad.

They could update the rule book and remove it but that's too much effort so everyone just ignores it and on occasion a noob or anal retentive jerk brings it up but ultimately it goes nowhere.

Every Starfleet captain that talks about the prime directive is that jerk.

The writers absolutely hosed it up after TOS. It was always meant to be more a pause on your reasoning, making you be sure it's worth breaking rather than something that lets you sit around smug how you're not helping save lives while drinking tea/coffee. Though I think the no civil wars part is a decent provision of it, meddling in internal affairs is never a great look for any power.

This is what I think later Trek writers forgot. TOS was written in the 50s for a 1950s American audience, and it was pretty critical of a lot of issues in American society at the time, examined through sci-fi allegories. I took the Prime Directive to be a thinly veiled criticism of American imperialism.

I hate this "can't judge them by human contexts" bullshit. You see it in other fandoms as well. All the god damned time, and always when someone's trying to justify liking the villains.

Yes, yes you can. Because they aren't real and they are the creation of human writers. They exist only within the context of human culture, and specifically the culture of the people and time that created it. Fiction is only ever a lens through which to play with ideas and examine problems in our societies. If there is a distinctive Klingon morality it's because it's a vision of a potential human morality created by human writers.

Like, that's the whole reason we tell these stories, so we can sit around and apply our context and morality to them and judge them. This is basic poo poo that goes back to ancient loving Greece, and probably all the way back to the first caveman sitting around a campfire to invented a fictitious person to make a point.

Case in point:

It's been really crashy since Tuesday's big update. Also, sometimes ship weapons just don't work.

I had that bug, it was not fun completing the TFO with only 3 turrets. I'm pretty sure I still out-dps'd some of my teammates though.

No active STO goon discord that I know of. The guild still exists, but doesn't really do things. The goon chat channel is largely dead except for the occasional invite request. If you have questions, there's more people in the NoPPS channel.

NoP Public Service

The spacing matters but not the case.

Started as a way to let any public player get starbase invites (and thus fleet gear) for free when having a T5 starbase was a huge deal, without having to deal with extortionate access prices demanded by certain fleets at the time. So a combo of community good work combined with the seething rage from certain profiteering people that we'd cut off their personal money trees at the base, torched the wood then pissed on the ashes. The channel took a life of its own afterwards, mostly because it never had petty dictatorial admins which is why a number of ye olde classic pubbie owned channels died off. Goons are still techically the admins but its 99.99% hands off and runs itself.

Only real channel rule is not to charge for anything, everything is free and do stuff for the common good i.e. invite people to starbase or fleet locations for vendor access. Goons doing simply that drove certain player groups completely nuts because they would demonise goons at every opportunity specifically owing to the goons ruining their ERP / grooming sessions.

Someone out there is reading this and going "What? No. You're making this up". Well I wish that didn't happen but Old Drozana was :aatrek: times fifty. We are talking a long time ago now though.

Good news. Kael posted this last night
https://twitter.com/AmbassadorKael/status/1399838468579086337
and reports from people who bothered to test on tribble is that the bug is not fixed. And if this is any indication:
https://twitter.com/AmbassadorKael/status/1399877912153624577
Cryptic has no idea how to trigger the bug for testing, and also no idea how their players actually play the game. I've managed to trigger the bug without spamming spacebar and based on Kael's replies I'm not the only one.

It's truly amazing how many bugs STO has that seem to only affect players, but never devs/QA.

The reason that I wasn't able to do the TFOs that go with the episodes the first time around was that they're level-locked, so the ones for the Romulan Mystery plot aren't available until level 50, and the way they took out a lot of missions out of the storyline progression means that you get there probably a lot later than when the content was first released. I'll switch back and forth between alts and play the TFOs on a level 65 character, then play the episodes on a Klingon Recruit.

CainFortea

After doing most of the first two story lines in the journal with the new character, I decided to check what the lvl 42 character can do, and that one is showing as being at about the same spot in them. So I figured i'd just use the higher level one, because i'm enjoying these missions and have basically been treating it as a single player game with other people running around in it.

But this other character has this problem where frequently i'll get into a ground fight and then everyone in the party will start shooting eachother until they go KO and I have either revive them if i'm still in combat or wait until they res themselves.

Also I can't go into aim mode, every time I hit the aim mode button the camera drops like i'm crouching but the character doesn't crouch.

Is there something goofy with this character? Are these known bugs? Am I doomed?

Standard Mudd's bundle price is 29,500 zen, so 14,750 on a 50% sale. Or a little over 7 million dilithium.

keep in mind during the december sale (usually dec 22-25th) all Mudds store items are 75% off, that means this pack will cost ~7.3k Zen instead of 15k

The sad thing is, based on current Cryptic bundle pricing, 6 ships for $150 is reasonable. It's definitely better than the 11th anniversary pricing and probably the best deal out of the various Mudd's bundles so far.

Yeah its impossible to tell with Cryptic. There's every motivation not to deep discount them again especially considering how cheap it made keys, but maybe they will. They're Cryptic. I'd still put money on only ever seeing the 50% off deals for the big bundles though.

I've hit level 51 now, and have been basically playing only with escort ships. I do enjoy gunning in with a bajillion cannons firing, dropping mines, zooming past, and going in for another run. I mostly do just the story campaigns single player, so sometimes I get into tough spots where a bunch of things are shooting at me and I explode very quickly. And i've done some group finder type things where if anything even glances at me I just explode.

Should I be looking at getting into cruisers now that things are getting harder hitting? Or do higher tier escorts have more survivability? I might like more beam style play, I don't know I haven't really done it.

Yes, I know I'm old, get off my fucking lawn so I can yell at these clouds.

Escorts are the kings of raw DPS and built properly you make everything explode before they can hit you. But, yeah, you do hit a period when you're still using MK XII weapons etc where you aren't punching quite hard enough to do that.

Cruisers are great for grinding out content when you don't have all max level poo poo, and they're also great for super lazy playing of events etc. A FAW beam boat isn't meta in the slightest, but it's also incredibly lazy to play. Meanwhile a maxxed out scatter volley escort will make entire spawns melt in a half second, but you actually need to kind of pay attention to what you're doing.

I run them both. I've got a beam boat that I just use for lazy farming and an escort that I pull out when I want to actually play.
