If I turn on "mobile data" the toggle is on until i leave the setting screen and load it again, it's off. Data never turns on in the taskbar. I don't want to do a factory reset and lose all her Stuff. A cursory google has stuff like 'turn off & on wifi/data/airplane mode and restart the phone'. Help, she actually uses her phone to talk with people unlike me who uses it to browse SA and watch porn

I mean at this point you're kind of at factory reset to rule out hardware issue.

It might be worth it to try rebooting into safe mode. Do like you're going to reboot the phone it hold the power off button in the menu.

So like I said my P3XL is bootlooping: is there a list of diagnostic things and repair actions I can take? I can get it into recovery (and what's rescue mode?)

I gotta say after a week with my S21 Ultra I haven't been too happy with the battery life. Even with 120hz on I was expecting it to do significantly better than the 2.5 year old Note 9 it replaced but they're about the same.

Part of me is thinking of returning it during the two-week window and waiting for the Pixel 6 Pro to come out.

Gf got the S20 FE and hers was poo poo too, she isn't as neurotic as me though and gave up the 120hz refresh and it got a lot better. Still not as good as our old Huaweis though. I mean I used to always get 3x hours, sometimes 40 with my P20 pro. Should have never let it go

S21 Ultra has a variable refresh screen anyway, dunno if it’d get the same boost as on the FE

I don't know if the Pixel 3 has this, but on my Samsung Galaxy S10+, under the General Management > Reset setting, I have a "Reset network settings" option. I once used that to solve a weird problem I had with my cellular network.

It's been a long time and in Googling it I'm pretty sure I've forgotten more than I remember but I think if you haven't enabled USB debugging from within Android that there's little to nothing you can do in recovery to help yourself. Like I think you can run ADB backup even on a stock recovery but I think you need USB debugging on in order to issue the command. Assuming you didn't OEM fastboot unlock I don't think you have any options.

I'm pretty sure stock recovery limits ADB commands to just sideload but in case it doesn't you should be able to confirm you have ADB access by connecting and querying "adb devices" and "adb help" should list a complete list of available commands.

If you scroll down this list of ADB commands you'll see the syntax for creating an ADB backup. I don't know what you're planning on saving that isn't automatically saved by the device backup that happens by itself.

If you unlocked the bootloader you could use fastboot to install a custom recovery which would allow you to just image the phone and restore it but if it's bootlooping an image wouldn't help you much.

This is pretty much the primary reason I would always bootloader unlock a device in case of emergencies like this. Since I Lived through multiple Nexus 6P bootloopers that were semi recoverable with custom bootloaders that disabled the bad cores.

Sadly if the bootloader is locked, there is very little you can do except hope you were backing up to Google. You may be able to get it to boot up long enough to grab something by chilling the phone ln the fridge for a bit and seeing if it will finish booting long enough to grab something you may loose.

Wait, what? Is this a thing for the Pixel 3XL series? I got the impression bootloops there were caused generally by bad update application.

Okay here's another stupid suggestion, give the pixel 3 a few good hits on the edge of a desk right on the power button. Apparently it's pretty common for the power button to get stuck on the P3 and this is what people online suggest doing. It completely fixed my P3 when it was bootlooping, and the drat thing is still working fine.

I feel really stupid suggesting this though so be careful.

Ah well if its not due to a hardware issue like the Nexus and pixel 1era then I could be way off.

The comment above about the power button I have heard more than once for the Pixel 3 now though so that could be worth a try.

S21U battery chat: maybe it's because I came from an old Moto G5S+ that would barely make it through a day, but I've been really pleased with the battery. I'm running max resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh with 3-4 hrs of SOT a day and I'm charging every other day with ~30% battery remaining. For instance, I took it off the charger yesterday morning and have had just shy of 4 hours of use since then - sitting at 66% with an estimated 1d9h of use left.

But I also don't do anything very demanding on my phone - camera, forums, news websites, email, texting, and the occasional phone call are pretty much it. No gaming etc.

I loving hate the smartphone market so loving much. We'll never see that here for years because the general dipshit public decides whats necessary and premium based on whether its on the iphone or not, which I assume takes several weeks to charge with an OEM cable that only lasts for 2 weeks before its frayed worse than my mind when thinking about this poo poo

The phone is using a prototype graphene battery so it's going to be a long time before something like that hits the general market.

Again, it's using a graphene battery which doesn't produce nearly as much heat while charging as lithium polymer.

It also means it's not hitting the market anytime soon.

Is there a way to re-restore a specific app backup from google drive? I gave up and reset my device and more of it's backed up that I was expecting, I was just hoping I could re-restore my home screen - the initial load messed up because all the apps weren't installed yet.

I've had pixels do this and was able to fix them by unlocking the bootloader and manually flashing a stock firmware (not an Ota).

Put this in the AT&T thread, but that doesn't seem used so maybe someone knows.

Interested in feedback on our family plan. It's my parents, sister and me on the Mobile Share Value 30GB with Rollover Data for $151/mo. How does that sound?

My phone was bought in full and I just pay my dad $50/mo for the plan. My sister does the same since we use most of the data. I'm a 35 year old man though so I wonder if getting a plan with my wife would be better?

I also need a new phone since the camera on my 3a XL has stopped focusing. I'll probably just get a 4a 5G used on Swappa, but I was looking into good deals right now and saw this $500 S21 Ultra with a 2 year contract upgrade https://slickdeals.net/f/15052381-s21-ultra-5g-loyality-deal-att-128gb-500-2-year-contract-reqd?v=1 I also see people there saying you need special plans for 5G?

Are certain plans needed for 5G and are there any other tricky ways to get good phone deals like that?

I've been happy with Visible. $40/mo for unlimited data (and call/text). They throttle video to 480p, but I so rarely stream video off wifi that I don't care.

It's -$5 per person if you bundle, so for 4 people it'd be $25/mo per person ($100 monthly, but it's treated as separate account). No additional taxes or fees, just a flat amount. No contract, just pay monthly.

It's on the Verizon network, which has good coverage for me. I've had it for at least a year and I have no complaints. No idea how that stacks up to the competition these days.

If you want to stay on AT&T's network, you can get a four person unlimited plan for $100 on Cricket. 5g will cost a bit more but still less than what you're paying now.

The cheaper options typically don't have the same phone financing incentives or promotions, there's a lot of inertia in family plans. Also those cheaper options don't have brick and mortar retail stores to help people fix poo poo, or hand-hold you through upgrading a phone.

Prepaid carriers generally have lower priority on the cell towers than the big boys, so in a busy area with lots of people connected to the tower, you'd probably see worse service on Cricket than somebody standing next to you on AT&T. It's usually not a problem, but it's something to consider.
