New Charmed should never have gotten rid of Carman.

And yes CW is a hellhole of unfun DARK/EDGY remakes nowadays. Did you see that leaked Powerpuff Girls script? drat that was terrible.

It was terrible enough that I had no doubt that it was real. "Wake up or we'll leak your nudes everywhere!"

I wonder if the overriding design philosophy isn't "it worked on Arrow!" when half the point was Ollie himself was wrong to be brooding lethal protector sniper man and once they realized they could lean into the comic side of things more (to the point a boxing glove arrow is once used) things slacked off.

The Powerpuff Girls reboot script didn't seem like it was trying for dark but rather 'modern humor' which included.. let me check my notes... ah, a Harambe reference in The Year of Our Lord 2021. Humor by committee. Or maybe the script had been sitting that long.

Mostly boredom, plus the fact that the show keeps bending over backwards to try and make us like a character who murdered people in the previous season and never redeemed herself for it.

The guy who posted it on Twitter had it taken down by the CW with a copyright claim, but I admire your optimism of the television entertainment industry.

Anyone who has been watching The Flash this season knows how bad things can get on the CW, and that’s the stuff that made it to air. I can easily imagine one of their pilot scripts looking like that.

A channel I’ve been binging recently is Josh Strife Hayes. He talks about MMOs, in particular roasting a bunch of terrible ones in his “Worst MMO Ever” series, which is exactly the sort of content I crave on Youtube.

But he does other stuff too, like his most recent video, which is about a cryptocurrency scam masquerading as an MMO. If you enjoyed laughing at all the people preordering spaceships in Star Citizen, then check this out because it manages to be even worse.

I only suggested making a streaming thread because tbh it's nice to have long things playing in the background when cleaning or baking or similar stuff where I can't look at the video. So a thread that compiles bearable streamers in one place would be nice to avoid the trouble of putting waders on and having to sift through all the muck myself. More focused & edited videos are nice for when I can give things more attention.

I'm pretty sure there's one in let's play.

Personally I don't care for streams much but scrolling past isn't a big deal or anything

I mean, they used to have a lot more variety. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was a CW show. So was Gilmore Girls, Jane the Virgin, and iZombie. They always aimed at a younger audience, but they approached it from a lot of different angels.

Today it seems like they have leaned extremely hard into trying to cultivate fandoms. They want every show to have the same kind of ride-or-die obsessives that Supernatural did, and so they make every show tumblr-bait.

There was a point about 4-6 years ago where the CW was putting out stuff worth watching. The aforementioned Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin and iZombie, for example. Arrow had some of the best choreographed fight scenes on television, period. The Flash was actually a good and fun show to watch at one point before it devolved into convoluted bullshit and misery porn. Legends of Tomorrow started out rough but quickly became a god tier screwball comedy. Supergirl was bright and fun and hopeful and went out of its way to piss off Status Quo Warriors by loudly shouting "people deserve basic human rights" every chance it got... before it kind of fell apart after its showrunner was outted as a sexpest. And Black Lightning had an amazingly stellar first season and was probably the best show the CW had ever done quality-wise because they didn't think they were getting a second season so they left it all on the court... and then it just kept going... and its showrunner was also outted as a sexpest, and then they just threw in the towel and decided to backdoor pilot a show that never even got picked up, just like Arrow did with its last season.

Also if we're being honest here, the CW's oeuvre is actually tame as poo poo and is simply the appearance of being edgy.

Sarah Z is good, but she hasn't quite gotten to the Jenny Nicholson knack of talking about something I had no idea even existing for 90+ minutes and I'll listen to every minute of it. I think it's a tone thing - JN is very good at conveying that "holy poo poo I'm telling this to you because I can't believe it myself" amazement. Different levels of depth, slightly different audience I guess.

I agree, I found myself actually getting annoyed with the supernatural one and turning it off because I didn't care and rather than a "can you fuckin' believe this dumb bullshit" tone it had one that made me feel like what was being discussed actually mattered. Deep dives into dumb bullshit requires a guide who's able to share the audience's bewilderment in order to get and keep them, which I imagine is the aim of these videos. People who know all this poo poo don't need a video to explain it to them. Super Eyepatch Wolf's Undertale video is an example I still think about, because what he uncovered was a truly massive world where millions of kids were making, watching, and reading things at a shocking scale. Like 20 million views on a rough animation of the Sans fight scale. But if you don't know it exists, it's an insane revelation that he was just as blown away by as I was, even if statistically it's more likely that someone who clicked on a video about Undertale fans knew all about those things. Jenny explaining an idiotic show for hours or covering the nearly 20 Land Before Time sequels have the same feeling of "no, listen, you're not gonna believe this poo poo" that makes me interested to see it through rather than actually caring about how the fandom never liked any female love interests introduced for characters they had convinced themselves were gay.

But if you explain what it is it still sounds like a sex thing, I'm holding onto that.
