Then I found on out my two favorite brutalist buildings were a govt tax building and a police station; hardly futuristic I dunno if Johnathan Meades is your cup of tea, but his concrete poetry series about brutalism is pretty neat imo. https://vimeo.com/93963469 Channel Meadeshrine on youtube has most of that series which covers .. well all sorts of architectural traditions across the last few hundred years.

I'm not sure if it qualifies as brutalism, but this gigantic block has been sitting unoccupied in Albany for years. It's filled with asbestos so it would cost literally millions to tear it down.

This is an old photo but it's hard to find more recent pictures of the place that show the whole building with even more growth: It's an exposed concrete skeleton within which the apartments can be freely modified, including the plumbing. The greenery also makes it cooler than surrounding buildings in summer, and a haven for birds. Of course we can't have nice things so it's the only one. Edit: it's in Osaka and is called Next21 Here's another picture showing one of the corridors: GotLag fucked around with this message at 00:01 on Jun 3, 2021 |
