Which is super weird when you think about how 205 live and main event is considered the 8th circle of hell. It probably helps that Dark/Elevation isn't treated like a separate brand and are true sister shows to Dynamite, with 'main roster'(if there is such a thing) talent showing up to do matches.

I mean Dark started as a response to fan’s comments that if wins and losses matter, you clearly need to have dark matches available somewhere. Then it became its own thing, it still built built around the touring roster. Then the pandemic made it really its own thing built around getting reps and paydays for indie wrestlers. (Tony Khan has been around pro sports long enough to know he needs a talent farm, so indie wrestling must be strong)

I don’t think WWE has an equivalent. Maybe NXT, but clearly not since Elevation is kind of that.

I don’t know, I don’t really watch other wrestling.

Wins and losses only matter in AEW because Tony Khan’s actual day job is literally Statistics Nerd.

Everyone saying dark and elevation are nothing but quick squashes clearly hasn't watched either show at least since the pandemic started. Yes, you can almost always guess the winner in the undercard, but it's not like this is 1990s Undertaker coming out and beating Bastion Booger or Brooklyn Brawler in 30 seconds. It's a lot of really good talent having often very competitive matches with aew guys. I guess I don't understand the attitude of "the only thing that matters is the outcome, not the match quality," mindset. Why even watch Dynamite or the ppvs? You can just look at results to get the finish.

It's fine not to watch them, there's only so many hours in a day, but on some level when you make that choice your taking the responsibility of missing the angles and growth on display on those shows. So like, sure don't watch em, but they more than JUST jobber squashes, which are pretty rare. Elevation in particular is more of a B show than a C show, with the interview segments and abundance of angles on it.

Jobber squashes can be good matches but without stakes or story impact there's still not much there of value. Like, if something gets traction in the MOTYC thread I'll go take a look but if nobody even cares to mention it there then it can't have been that good

If you don't watch BTE/Sammy's Vlog, a lot of the "enhancement talent" are gonna appear that way, because they don't get time on Dynamite or Dark for promo's or to look like anything other than jobbers. Someone needs to make a rough cut weekly BTE/Sammy's digest for character work stuff on there, because a lot of it does end up getting used.

I’m just plainly happy seeing midcarders get their reps in against enhancement talent on dark and elevation and maybe I’ll get to see a seed of something that’ll make them a big deal one day so I can say I was there from base camp. Also helps that being youtube shows, it’s easy to cherry-pick matches and segments

EFF TEE DUB!!
EFF TEE DUB!!
'enhancement' matches on Dark can still be good matches, but let's be real; they are not going to forward storylines other than "person win match good". And that's fine. They are more or less indie matches that just sorta happen. And that's fine.

It's also funny that this seems to be a unique thing to wrestling, where people will say, "oh you didn't watch that show that most people do not watch? YOUR LOSS."

There weren't story beats on X-Files that made no sense and then the defense was "oh you didn't watch Freaky Links? YOUR LOSS."

AEW needs to do what comics books do and put little editor notes in the corner saying something like, "Confused? Watch Dark from 3-12-21 for the full story!"

Dude he's in a nepotism spot and you're not going to convince me otherwise about Fuego. He's both Dustin's son and Sammy under a mask trying to get two contacts. Google told me this and it's got to be true.

I've been involved in a number of cults, both as a leader and a follower.

You have more fun as a follower. But you make more money as a leader.

I’m just curious what the long term plans are for DO without a spotlight singles star. Hangman and Tay aren’t official members, so the makeup of the faction right now is kinda odd for a stable

2 Tag Teams: uno/Grayson & Silver/Reynolds
1 women’s star: Anna Jay
1 Midcard Guy: 10
1 lower card guy: 5

10 is improving but he still reads as bruiser henchman more than a leader. Uno can work as a leader (although he was great as Brodie’s snivelling #2) but he’s not really a singles guy who would be pushed as a main title competitor.

I guess maybe Dark Order in it’s current form stays as a midcard group and stays out of the main event beyond being backup for Hangman?

Yes, you can almost always guess the winner in the undercard, but it's not like this is 1990s Undertaker coming out and beating Bastion Booger or Brooklyn Brawler in 30 seconds.

you are correct, sometimes the Dark squashes took 2:30 instead

Silver, Grayson, 10, and 5 could easily be solo guys. Colt Cabana too, though he'd likely be midcard.
