I promise I'm not a crazy person and the words I'm about to spew forth are real and earnest because this is how you do something that's a simple menu selection on most other phones but is inexplicably THIS from a manufacturer that at one point allowed you to change things like CPU throttling limits in the settings menu.

First, you download GoodLock from the Samsung store. Like its name clearly indicates, this is for customizing your phone.

Then, once you have that, open it up. Then, from the two bottom tab choices of "Unit" and "Family" select "Family" (because, you know, theming is a family affair and not a...unit?)

From there, you can install Theme Park from the Samsung store.

This will allow you to create your own theme instead of needing to download them and you can focus on just the accent color. Though, there is a limitation that the theming is a color scheme derived from a wallpaper. But hey, you can change it in this clearly simple built in process.

Wait wait, you have to download one app from the Samsung store, open an oddly named menu just to access the Samsung store again all so you can download a second app?

Thank you, I really really appreciate all this! I never would have figured that out

Work just finished and it turns out that Good Lock isn't available in my region. No big, I'll sideload it from somewhere else. I downloaded it, installed it, and then the app itself just tells me it's not available in my region

I guess I'll just be with default Samsung blue forever...

Still appreciate the info tho!

I have decided to ask the official Samsung helpline to see if I get a response to this...

EDIT: So I tried to circumvent this by going to the Samsung Theme store, downloading a free theme, then changing the wallpaper/lock screen. I'm a genius! The themes downloaded change everything but the accent

Android Police is going to be covering Apple devices as well as Android and I have never seen people so upset outside of the Amazing Spider-Man costume on Spider-Man PS4. :v:

https://www.androidpolice.com/2021/06/04/the-ipad-is-such-a-good-writing-machine-it-makes-me-angry/

Two articles talking about switching from Android to iPhone for a third time and about how good the iPad is over Android tablets because Google just stopped caring. The comment sections are more of a cesspool than usual.

I just wanna know if Artem's Android problems will follow him over to iPhone too... he has weird bad luck with phones to the point it makes me concerned the man is cursed or something. hah

I'm fine with them covering apple products, but let's not pretend that 2nd article was worth posting.

It basically boils down to "I want a mobile writing setup, but I also want to use my mechanical bluetooth keyboard, I can't use a normal computer because 'distractions' but the iPad is so much better than android tablets because it has apps, but I only want it for focused writing!"

I never goes into the actual workflow that the iPad enables that couldn't be sought out anywhere else. It smacks of a editor in chief mandated "write an Apple puff piece" assignment.

I mean did you READ the dreck of that article?

quote:

But the iPad Air does it so easily, without the hiccups and stutters that are practically a part of Android’s identity. Two swipes is all it takes ... and forgive me for this, but it just works.

On the Air’s 11-inch screen, the interface almost melts away as the music starts playing, allowing me to focus almost entirely on what I’m writing. Despite a form factor and hardware that’s more or less the same as any Android tablet (and many Chrome OS tablets, now), Apple’s unrivaled focus on why and how people actually use its hardware makes it an experience that’s years ahead of anything Google or Samsung can manage.

.....

But when I buckle down for hours of focused writing, the iPad and my trusty keyboard are what I reach for. I’m sorry for all of my still-loved Googley tablets, and I’m sorry for all the time I spent trying to force them into a task for which they simply weren’t equipped.

It’s hard to imagine Google coming close to this level of focused writing excellence any time soon.

Seriously, that's just nausea inducing crap. It's like every buzzword marketing drivel crap was distilled down into a say nothing blog post. I mean, really, "focused writing excellence." That super hard task of paring a bluetooth keyboard and typing words on to a screen.

It deserves to be ripped apart in the comments. It's almost like a performance piece parodying the worst of astroturfing.

Oh I read it, it's the usual Android Police write-up now a days. I'm not surprised.

If it's not them minutely changing an article to bump it to the top or promoting their "free" wallpapers on their mailing list or sponsored stuff that is questionable in quality at best, it's puff piece articles about how great or bad something is because it's not like their specific ideals/the competition/an old phone/the phones in other countries that most can't get.

Those sponsored posts are the worst though.

I have a Pixel 4XL and for like forever I've had it set to vibrate only in my sound settings (you know, where you can pick from 3 settings, sound, vibrate only, silent when you hit a volume button). Now I need to make sure if one person calls me, it plays a ringtone. Ideally on regular phone and whatsapp. I can't get it to play a ringtone unless I turn on the general sound from the main 3 settings, but when I do that, every text makes a sound and that's the opposite of what I want to happen here. Is there any way to keep the phone on vibrate only for everything EXCEPT for calls from this one person? I tried custom notifications in whatsapp but it won't play the ringtone if the phone settings are set to vibrate only at the top level. I don't want to hear stupid sounds whenever I send/receive a text but turning sounds on seems to be the only way to get the ringer to work.

I'd like to get perspective and assure whatever is on my Android is not actively continuing to send data to this person.

I ended up looking at some porn. And was sexting this "chick". She sent nudes, then I sent nudes. Then she embeded an image as a downloadable file.

This let this person access a lot of information on my phone. Contacts, Facebook.

He then wanted me to send him money or he'd send my dick pics to my contacts. I said gently caress that. So Im assuming he probably will.

So I'm curious what got installed on my phone. Is there any measure I should take to make sure what ever I downloaded is removed and isn't keylogging or actively sending data?

The way you've described this really sounds like one of the many multimedia exploits from the stagefright era, what is you phone? Is it 4+ years old? If so, you really need to replace it with something that's getting updates. A factory reset might not even make a phone that old safe, malware could be in the bootloader now.

Can you get a pixel 4a for similar? Google commits to security updates for longer than Samsung does on the A series last I checked.

E: actually, apparently Samsung has just recently committed to 4 years of security updates on the A series now including the A51, so you should be good with it. I'd still personally go for a Pixel 4a over an A51 if they were similar price, but depends on what you have available.

I tried AIMP and while it is robust, it is missing simple things like a loving 'undo' button or a way to restart the shuffled playlist, apparently? And if either of these things are wrong, it demonstrates how poor it is at communicating such things.

Write down/print out the restore codes that each site gives you when you turn on 2FA.

Also you can use Authy to back up the codes instead of using Google Authenticator. But definitely do the former anyway.

Going by the initial post, it seems like he accidentally gave permissions to whatever the person sent him that wouldn't have helped on any new device if said permissions were granted on it as well..

Also is it just me or is YouTube music app even worse than any other music player since the dawn of music players? Why in the world does it not have a repeat option for the drat playlist so when it gets to the end, it should just start over at the beginning. Nope. You can either repeat one song forever, or play till the end and it stops and you have to manually go all the way back to the first song to start it again. What in the F Google?!?

Google Play Music continued to be better in every way but welp. We got the shittiest player ever on top of one that always recommends music I would never and have never listened to ever as my recommendations.

Luckily my plan includes Tidal and its actually much better at well everything that YTM isn't.
